Also, Morey, Thompson, and Carlini went to the USAVB Collegiate National Team tryouts last month. Despite missing the first night because they spent all day trying to get out of Madison (50 mph winds = messed up air travel), it sounds like at least Carlini caught some eyes (duh?).
The first of the three CNT rosters, the China team, was announced today and there were no Badgers on it. I have a hard time believing that LC at least will not be spending some time with USAVB this summer.

Why would she go anywhere? In the span of the last 15 months she has gone from 2nd asst at Dayton to 1st asst at Wisconsin. That's probably a $30K per year difference at the least. She is great at what she does and has been allowed to do just that. And she is still in the Midwest/B1G area. There is a .0000000001% chance she leaves in the next 5 years. Sheff has exactly what he wants at Wisconsin - two single asst coaches who are extremely focused on their volleyball coaching careers. 0000000001% exactly what akbar said, if they do well, she will be approached. she's a 30 under 30 after all. and it's not about what sheff wants, it's what she wants.

Congratulations, Taylor! /photo/1 This proves she's more than ready to take over Hickey's place next year. This will be invaluable experience for her, greatly helping out the badgers this coming season. I'm excited.

At least Northwestern is driveable. Hope that game is on a Saturday so we can go. Most likely not this season. Wisconsin @ Northwestern is tentatively scheduled for Wed. Oct. 1.

I was rewatching the Wisconsin-Michigan State game earlier and started thinking once Mikaelson gets healthy again who was gonna play one the right. I remember her from years past being a pretty good right side hitter but Thomas is such an all around good player and attacker. Would they move Thomas to the outside with Chapman?

I wouldn't until she can put the ball away more regularly. She had less kills at a lower efficiency than Morales.

y'all saw that Crystal Graff is bowing out from VB. She's dealt with too many injuries to continue. Best of luck.

Court has a starting spot and plays 6 rotations because she's in a good position to set if LC makes the first touch. A lot will depend on how strong Jules comes back versus how much Court improves her hitting this spring. I'm running a couple of permutations of starting lineup through my head, based on nothing but my imagination. The first doesn't look a ton different from last year: L1: Chapman L2: Morales S: Carlini RS: Thomas M1: Thompson M2: Nelson Lib: Morey DS for Chapman: Bates Server for Thompson: Kvas The second has Jules coming back strong and Court's hitting improving enough to move her to the left: L1: Chapman L2: Thomas S: Carlini RS: Mikaelsen M1: Thompson M2: Nelson Lib: Morey DS for Chapman: Bates DS for Mikaelsen: Morales Server for Thompson: Kvas? This one is a little tricker because we use an extra set of subs having Deme come in for Jules in the back row. Do we have the subs for KT to come in to serve for Dom and play the one rotation? Or do we have Dom work on her serving so she can stay in and we don't burn that sub? Or I could be completely off base on all of this. :-) I can't wait for 4/6!

I don't think you understand how good Bates is, how relatively inexperienced Mikaelsen is, Fricano isn't anywhere on your lists, and you greatly misunderstand that the inefficiency offensively from Courtney and Deme is an actual issue.

Fair. I've never seen Bates play. I saw Fricano play exactly once, at last year's Cardinal and White scrimmage. I don't know about inexperience, but Mikaelsen definitely will be set back by missing a year of practice. If it's between two players of similar ability, I can see how a coach would logic it out to invest in giving the experience and game time to the younger player who'll be with you longer. I still think Thomas gets six rotations because of her setting ability, and that her efficiency will improve with reps this spring/summer. You are thinking that Fricano and Bates beat out Thomas and Morales for play? What do you think the lineup will look like?

Yes, I agree with Courtney's offensive inefficiency is a huge problem sometimes. We need more consistency there, but her setting is also valuable. And while Deme can go cold, she too has other talents, such as digging, that make her valuable. Shef has a lot of tough choices to make, it will be a fun season and i think it will take a bit of time to solidify the lineup.

Can't hurt Sheff's recruiting to have the Badgers in another final four this year.
