Hmmm. Special mention..."she was on fire all night long." Then they showed her getting a kill and getting blocked .. albeit on a pretty bad set. Balance in reporting I guess. Other team pretty excited by that block!
Is there some requirement that opposing teams wear the same uniforms in Indiana?

That's the day of the Michigan match. We don't have a home match before that, and the match after it is away (@ Iowa). Probably won't have a match with the new signees in attendance this year like in years past.

Tell me how a "sold out" crowd is possible when the entire upper deck was empty? Do they just not allow people up there for some reason?

My guess is we will have a recruit gathering at the home game against the Illini on November 19th. I may be wrong because it might be tough to get them to Madison on a Wednesday evening, but I think Coach Sheffield would like to introduce the future Badgers to the fieldhouse. I guess we will find out in two weeks.
The main arena officially holds 6,012, and the upper deck adds another 3000+. However, a few years back it was determined that modern safety standards need to be applied and it is unusable until we get higher railings and some improvement with the stairs. It will cost about $300,000 bucks and Coach Sheffield said not to worry about the improvements until there is a need. With the recent sell outs, the discussion is advancing.
The last time it was sold out including the upper deck was Halloween night when the Badger's beat Penn State about 5 years ago.

Not quite. The Badgers beat PSU in 3 on the Halloween match in 2006. The sellout you're thinking of was the Dig Pink game against PSU in 2007, when the Badgers lost in 5 off the infamous Harmotto ponytail touch non-call.

The upper deck is too steep, and if someone fell there is a feeling they would roll down the stairs and tumble into the lower level. The field house is a very old building. Whatever they need to do, I'm sure they could find many more things to do to make the field house a better facility.

Whatever they need to do, I'm sure they could find many more things to do to make the field house a better facility. But the Field House is also on the National Register of Historic Buildings, so they are very limited in what they can do there, construction-wise speaking. Also, they're doing the old building dance, where so much is not up to code that is grandfathered in because they haven't touched it in so many years. If they were to make a modification that involved one of those areas, they would have to bring the whole thing up to code. That's the biggest reason why they won't ever have AC in the Field House. The upper deck railings in the FH are too low, and at 8", the steps are too steep (limit is 6"). They got an exemption for the steps last time, but they're not sure they can get one again.

OK...tough schedule coming up, the dog days of the season with a lot of away matches. But I think that if we can get by Purdue convincingly, I won't be worried about any matchup we face thereafter, except maybe OSU away with Sandbothe playing -- they are a changed proposition with her. The team has played well on the road so far and I'm oddly sanguine about IL at home. If we can keep this game-by-game point-by-point mentality, keep up the defense and remain flexible about how we win points, we should outlast any team that comes at us.
I'm hoping that there may be some importance to the Rutgers match I plan to attend at New Brunswick. I can't wait to see the badgers play, but the game doesn't promise much at this point. Would be nice if at least a tie for B1G title was at stake, and we could get that decided before the final Purdue match at home.
Wait, is senior night the Fri after Tday? Or is it IL at home 10d before. Will anyone be at the home Purdue match?

They're a completely different team with Viliunas setting the 5-1 than they were when we played them in Champaign. Counting our blessings, at least the Spike Squad has made its annual trip already (Nebraska), and with the IL match on a Wednesday, I don't think we'll have such a hostile opposing crowd. Senior Night is the Black Friday Purdue game. I'm disappointed because that is traditionally a poorly-attended match. We will be there, but I'm not sure about many others, and there will be zero student section and possibly not even a band. We need good attendance for that match because of the opponent - this could actually wind up being the B1G championship match - AND because our seniors deserve a good sendoff. I kind of wish they could have Senior Night be the Illinois match, but on the flip side, the players' families should be there, and it'd be a lot easier for the parents to make a Thanksgiving trip out of it than it would for them to try to get to Madison on a Wednesday night.

I thought Purdue and IL were very evenly matched when they played. It led to a real dogfight of a match. Even though Ill won it 3-1, all three latter sets were extremely close and could have gone the other way. And it was at Illinois. A different result could have occurred at Purdue.
I feel like a convincing display against Purdue in W.Laf should mean we have the upper hand against Ill at home...especially if we continue to exhibit consistency in the quality of our performances. It needs to be convincing though, and that's a big IF.

The reason I am more concerned about IL than PUR is that I think that IL's strengths match up against our weaknesses in a way that favors the Illini. It's subtle, but I think it's there. For example: Plenty of big blocking teams we've played haven't had great floor defense, so we've been able to score by hitting around/off/through the block. Purdue's floor defense is average, but Brandi Donnolly is a human Roomba, so she'll pick all that stuff up. We'll have to serve them tougher than we've served all season to keep Viliunas from being able to run the middles.

RainbowBadger, thanks for your correction. I was at both games but I get excited about Halloween and it must be affecting my memory. Even if I was wrong, I still remember all the costumes and excitement that Halloween evening. There is something special about Halloween in Madison.

In fact, Dorn is not really an offensive threat. Serve receive is pretty middle of the pack, but for their libero. Good OH, great blocking team. However, if our passing is good, we keep them off balance enough to have same opportunities we had against Nebraska; split blocks, single blocks.
