IA loss 15-25, 16-25 vs MN at the UNI tourney. Passing needs some work. Middles are a little slow, one looks like Sandra Bullock. Anyway, I don't know any of the IA players, but I think the lefty opposite (#3?) is their best offensive weapon. That's Erin Radke. From same club as Taylin Alm. Hard to judge till they get this years recruits in. They need a ton if work yet, for sure. Hard to be a fan of Iowa volleyball, so hoping for the best this fall. Sure hope you Iowa fans aren't expecting a Wisconsin like turnaround this Fall. Wisky has way more talent than Iowa and Sheff was able to put it all together and with some luck get to the FF. I see Iowa as still being a bottom 3rd team in the conference next year ahead of Rutgers, Maryland and Indiana

And your prediction of where they will finish in the B1G could be very accurate for this coming year. My hope is that there will be marked improvement in the Hawks' level of play, in how they compete and maybe to nab a few surprise wins to build confidence. I believe that improvement will happen next year but significant change will take some time, especially to give him a chance to bring in full classes of his own recruits.

NC State used to be the laughing stock of the ACC, they made the tournament two years after a coaching change.

The question is whether this is the right coaching change. No one can answer that now. All we have is conjecture.

But no one knows how the stars will line up, especially since the HC's success depends on the whims of teenagers.

Considering all the factors that the Iowa AD was working with, I believe he made the best hire he could have. Will Iowa be able to make a significant jump in the B1G standings? In the last seven years of conference play, Iowa finished last in 5 of those years, next to last 1 year, and finished above 2 teams in one of the years. Shymansky does not have a difficult task ahead in improving on those finishes, especially with the addition of Rutgers and Maryland. The difficult task for Iowa is to climb over Northwestern, Ohio State, Michigan State, Michigan, etc.
If Iowa could somehow finish in ninth place and finish with a .500 overall record, perhaps they could somehow merit a bid to the Big Dance. That would be a hugely successful first season for Shymansky. I do not see Iowa qualifying for the NCAAs next season, but I truly hope I am wrong.
Shymansky and his staff have to currently be playing a chess game putting together their preconference slate. The Hawks need to enter the rugged B1G play with as few losses as possible (any D1 patsies care to make an early season trip to Iowa City?). But the coaches also have to be concerned about RPI and preparing their young team for conference play. This will call for at least one maybe two traditionally high RPI teams in the preseason slate.

I think some of their 2014 pre-conference/non-conference schedule was already set. They may have had one weekend to choose what tournament they would like to play in, and bring in a new team or 2 to their Hawkeye Challenge. I think 2015 will be more indicative of the scheduling Bond would like to do. Maybe he will schedule like Illinois does.

The issue Bond and his staff will face in regards to scheduling is convincing the "good RPI" schools to play them in the pre season. There isn't much in it for these teams until Iowa gets to a place where their RPI is more attractive.

I think Shymansky will make Iowa better. So will Rutgers and Maryland being in the league. I don't know how much they will be able to improve in a tough league, but I think a change was due and bringing in a guy who has won at two places is a good move, in my opinion. His being let go at Georgia Tech was strange, and they haven't been improved from where they were since then, which I think says something. He didn't leave the cupboard bare at Marquette either.

As I stated earlier, Bond was able to recruit and bring a great deal of talent to Georgia Tech, although some would say the team underperformed on the court. I expect he will again over time be able to recruit talent to Iowa City. The question then becomes can he get the talent to crack the top 1/2 of the Big ten.
