I don't think anyone's started this thread yet...
I watched the UCF vs. UF match on ESPN3 and I really liked what I saw from Noami. I think that when Carli Snyder comes in, it's gonna be a bloodbath for that OH2 position. I love the fire that Noami plays with and she has a freaking cannon as an arm (both hitting and serving). Gabby is sick a ton and really doesn't terminate. Her blocking is great though. It'll be interesting to see what happens there. Wasn't impressed by Ziva which is rather disappointing. But Alex. phew! So glad we have her and that she was playing 6 rotations. She's deadly. Reminds me so much of Kelly and how the USA team was using her this year.
I'm also glad Rhamat is coming in. I like Shaianah, but I just don't think she's what we need. We need some height and some more blocking. Rhamat should provide that at 6'5"
I also noticed that they played with a faster offense. Credit to Mackenzie Dagostino, she thrives in the faster offense. I really like her as our setter.
Any thoughts?

Im hoping to see Alex blossom the more she gets comfortable at playing six rotations and as Dagastino gets better locating the ball for her. Agree on Naomi 100%. I'm partial to Antwi as starting middle. Very effective hitting all the sets and has more experience blocking. However all if them are great. Prefer Unroe as libero she digs and passes better than the others, she isnt as good as running down the off speed as some of the other ds we have but she gets in good position to dig hard hits and it's very transitionable. I'm hoping we get better at blocking this season though. Especially being more dynamic solo blocking when we play teams that run very quick offenses. Jump or move hands in and out of different areas cuz playing safe and justc area blocking will prob be a kill for other team.

Rhamat is an elite mb and should make a difference right away. You got a good one with her, she's a tough match up for any team.

Haven't seen anything on Snyder so she might be behind Malette.

I have a great idea. If both teams are pretty good but only one is seeded, can we not be lazy for once and set up Florida and Florida State to play in the second round of the NCAA tournament, since they usually play each other anyway?

No Recek? Wow, that's would be a bold move. But I like it! She is so good, but her defense has been sub-par for a 6-rotation OH and this past season was rather disappointing offensively. Maybe she'll put in some serious work this summer and be back at it come fall. I watched the UCF match again and I just really like Noami as OH. Her defense wasn't shabby either, getting some good blocks on the slide (a huge weakness in our blocking) and passing well.
Also, when did Florida start swing-blocking?

Sorry, but there's no way Recek won't be on the floor. It looks like Snyder and Santo-Lamb are going to battle it out for the OH2 spot. I think Santos-Lamb will start off the year as a starter and then Snyder will eventually catch up.
Alhassan is ridiculously athletic. It'll be fun to see her develop at Florida.

I've got to admit, I wasn't impressed with Ziva last year. She didn't seem to make much progress from her freshman year. In fairness to her, though, I think her troubles on serve-receive have colored my opinion of her overall play to some extent. If she's going to play six rotations, she had better get her passing in order.
It's great to hear Noami did well. You could see how much potential she has when she was subbed in last year, and by the end of the season was really starting to click.
How did the passing look overall in the match?

I think in their system it just depends how the other team runs their offense and if they have enough time to react that the swing block technique can work. They switch to the more basic version on quicker sets. But I do like seeing them getting back to using it when they can. Florida used to be a swing blocking team then went away from it for a few years cuz of the players they had.

I have a feeling Gabby will keep her spot due to her physicality though. No idea what Snyders skill set is for back row. If she can play that, Ziva may get just the front row rotations. So many options... Hope shainah gets some time somewhere. She's a good player, but I do like a 6'5 middle patrolling the net. Really ready for the Rhamat show! So much depth to this roster.

Passing started out a little shaky especially if Recek passed but after that it steadied out so we were siding out at a decent rate.

Talent is seldom a problem for Florida - in all sports. Look at the roster at Florida and you will see top 10 - 20 recruits up and down. Florida has the athletes, consistently. That has never been the issue.

I agree with some of the above reasoning on talent. IMO it's going to be about who beats out who to be on the floor. The good news is the Gators should be a pretty deep team because of the talent and position battles.

How is the freshman setter from Ohio? Didn't she graduate HS early and enroll this spring? Redshirt possible?
