Walking Dead (s8)
Just watched the most excruciating (in a bad way) episode. An entire episode devoted to the death of a single character, and the last 30 minutes to this character’s slow death. I never liked this character to begin with. It was like going to the dentist.

Also mildly interested what this final season of Veep will bring.

Piper Perabo was really good in Game Night. And other things. Pretty good middle blocker for Texas too. And an OU grad. What makes her so awful in Covert Affairs is that she smiles too much and at the most inappropriate times. She's supposed to be a CIA operative! This is either bad acting or bad directing. Or maybe it's supposed to be outrageous given how outrageous the show is. Who knows. Very annoying actress.

Covert Affairs (s2)
Another annoying thing. Piper Perabo, a covert CIA operative, has to be the most conspicuous spy ever in the history of spies.
Red dress? Check. Fashionable high heels? Check. Flowing blonde hair? Check. Red car? Check. Smiles a lot? Check. Looks back to see if anyone is following her...in the most suspicious manner? Check.
Grrrrrr...

"Man, that woman has been following me all day. Could she be a spy? No, wait. Isn't that Piper Perabo? Never mind."

So, in The Office, the character Andy Bernard is a graduate of Cornell University. If anything, Cornell should feel embarrassed because Andy Bernard is an idiot and the kind of guy you might imagine getting into an elite school like Cornell through his family's connections and wealth. Despite this, in real life, Ed Helms, the actor who portrays Andy Bernard, was invited to deliver a speech at Cornell's 2014 Convocation ceremony. This shiite blows my mind. Helms makes a joke about this: "It's like the Naval Academy inviting Captain Crunch..."
I mean, the writers probably got together, created a character named "Andy Bernard" and was trying to decide which school he graduated from and possibly chose Cornell at random.

The Walking Dead (s8)
So irritating. The main bad guy NEVER dies. Bullets fly everywhere but he never gets hit. He gets pummeled with a baseball bat or a metal pipe, he staggers but immediately gets up and runs away. Also, when death is imminent, they just talk and talk and talk until death is no longer imminent. Then everyone gets away.
Grrrrrrr...

The Walking Dead (s8)
Also, the bad guys show up with about 20 people to attack a home base. During the fight, I swear I saw about 30 of these bad guys being mowed down. Several scenes later, the bad guys regroup and I swear, I saw about 20 guys. This show is really bad with math.

The Walking Dead (s8)
What a stupid ass season. I hated the whole Negan story arc from the end of season 6 to the present.

There have never been more quality TV shows than there are now. And yet it is so hard for me to find a TV show that I enjoy watching. I could probably count the number of shows I have enjoyed over the past ten years on one hand. You are right that things like production, directing, camera work, and music are much better, and there are more good actors and actresses. But the dramas are depressingly dark, the comedies are stupidly absurd, and the characters are generally unappealing. Each time my wife and I finish a series it is a struggle to find something tolerable to watch next. I have given up hope of finding something enjoyable.

It's not infinite. It's just more than ever before, in terms of quality. But also in terms of sheer volume.
And I'd place Downton Abbey pretty far down on the list. It wasn't very good, not after season 1. Subjective, I know.
