The variety of shows and the talent involved with them is unprecedented. Yes, you are right about that. Maybe that's why I'm so disappointed--there are so many shows that are well-made that I don't enjoy at all. Take murder mysteries for example. There are so many mysteries and other crime shows, but they are so dark and depressing with plenty of violence and unhappy characters often behaving badly. I want heroes. Maybe I'm just too old and jaded.Where's the "YES" or "I AGREE" button?

Maybe you need to see a doctor? Maybe? "Oh very young, what will you leave us this time?"

Okay, with the exception of Firefly, these are old-ass shows. They're from my generation, but daaaayummm, they're old! The three "recent" shows I listed earlier, Miss Fisher Murder Mysteries, Last Tango in Halifax, and Limitless are all from this decade. In the 90s and 00s I was working a lot and the TV I had time for was usually watching with my kids. It is really only the past few years that I've been even trying to watch TV. I also can't stand TV advertising, which means I can't really watch any network TV shows until they show up on Netflix or now Prime.

I don't even watch TV anymore, except only to use the TV itself to watch DVDs or watch youtube.

Speaking of bad TV, how does something like this ever get released as a music video? See 0:54-1:12. What sort of dorky dance step is that? And who made the decision to film it and include it in the video? Remarkable. Poor George Harrison. Anyway, this is the kind of shiite that was being done back then.

Covert Affairs (s3)
So, Annie Walker (played by Piper Perabo) is supposed to elude detection in the busy market area in Marrakech, Morocco while she is on a mission. So, how does she dress? Bright colored outfit. Flowing blonde hair, uncovered. Bare arms -- a no no in Muslim country. I mean, she doesn't even make an effort to wear a disguise or cover herself up. So, it's no surprise that the bad guys are able to find and pursue her so easily.
This kind of shiite is so laughable. And so annoying as hell.
The only time this kind of behavior made sense was when she was in Stockholm. There, just about everyone is blonde. However, the bad guys are looking for her. While everyone is dressed in dark or blue clothes, she's escorting her sister who's dressed in -- you guessed it -- red. LOL!

I just don't watch shows at their intended time (other than sports). I record my shows and fast forward through the commercials.

Started watching The Man in the High Castle again. Started over. I think I only watched two episodes the first time and now I remember why. Badly acted and poorly written. I'm going to give it more time, however, since several people have said it is good.
I'll try Justified too.

Okay, with the exception of Firefly, these are old-ass shows. They're from my generation, but daaaayummm, they're old! Actually, there is a trend, if I am not mistaken, of nostalgia running through recent TV shows, of shows trying to recapture the childhood shows that the now mature audience once watched. So there is this strange hybrid I would call it, of shows aiming at adults but featuring protagonist who are kids/teenagers, like the audience members once were when they first watched the genre. So we get shows like Stranger Things, who features a bunch of (now) middle school kids as the stars, despite the subject matter being at times very mature adult horror that reflects 70's and 80's classics like Twilight Zone, Jaws, ET, etc. (As an aside, Stranger Things is certainly worth watching, but a bit overrated by the critics I think, it's not exactly the BEST show there is). Another show that seem to latched on the nostalgia wave is another Netflix show, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, based of course on Sabrina the teenage witch from the comics. Now the original comics (and later the 90's sitcom) was aimed at a family-friendly audience and younger kids. But the Chilling Adventures is kinda weird and a hybrid show again. Sabrina and her gang are still teenagers, but the horror they deal with are pretty mature horror with a focus on satanism and evil demons, not to mention a very liberal sprinkling of sexual innuendos in the episodes. Pretty far from traditional Sabrina light-hearted stories. Now maybe it is trying to reinvent Sabrina for a new cool and hip "young adult" audience, but I suspect a big chunk of the audience would be the grown-up fans of Sabrina. Not exactly sure whether they really want such as an "adult-focus" Sabrina though. But I guess the producers gambled they would like it?

Maybe I'm just too old and jaded. You don't need to justify and apologize for your taste. Different audience members have different preferences. Not everyone likes a post-modern dark or mature shows or mature reinterpretation of classic shows. Sometimes it can get even a little old and tiresome to see the same kind of flawed anti-hero as the protagonist again. But at the end of the day, what really matters to me in whether a show is worth watching is whether it keeps my attention through its airing and makes me want to see the next episode. That is always the tried-and-true test of whether a show is worth watching for me.

This looks really heavy and grim (given the subject matter), but it looks really compelling and gripping at the same time:
