Thanks, Mike. I shared your answers with the wife, who was as confused as I was. I'm glad you're explaining this without spoilers. This is the reason why I don't look up Buffy info online -- I hate spoilers. I vaguely remember something about how being bitten doesn't necessarily turn you into a vampire. In Supernatural, a vampire has to inject his vampire "juice" into the veins in order to turn someone. In Buffy, I guess you have to be fed by a vampire. But, as I said, this is a vague memory. That's actually a fairly traditional part of the vampire mythology. In Dracula, for instance, Mina only starts turning into a vampire because Dracula deliberately chose to turn her into one as an act of revenge. Werewolf/Zombie bites are usually treated as "infectious disease" and being bitten by one turns you into one. That goes along with the way they are usually treated in the mythology as mindless beasts. (When they are not treated that way, and werewolves retain human intelligence, then usually it also is not assumed that a bite will transmit the condition.) Since vampire mythology usually is more about intentional corruption, there is usually some act of volition (at least on the part of the vampire) involved in turning someone into a vampire.

Watching Scandal (S1) now while waiting for other DVDs. Boy, I hate Kerry Washington. She's not a good actress and the very sight of her makes me want to hurl. Her lips. My god, what the hell did she do to her lips? The entire cast, except for the Scottish guy (Henry Ian Cusack) is lousy. Interesting storylines, but the casting is wrong.

This summer the whole family got hooked on Longmire.
Between cell phones and Netflix, kids really have no clue how life was in the 70's and 80's.

And I know what you mean - the sight of her makes me want to hurl myself at her!

Done with True Detective. Loved the series. I admired its makers for resisting the urge to rely on familiar and predictable plots and characters. In particular, I liked the unconventional caustic relationship between the two partners -- Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey. In just about every (99%) TV show and movie, cop partners get along swimmingly. Not here. Loved the soundtrack as well -- the eerie whomp whomp whomp subdued rhythmic beats.
The show had a long tracking shot in episode 4. Very complicated. I'm not sure it tops the long tracking shot in Children of Men (which involved a moving car and numerous stunts), but it was impressive nonetheless.
This show makes me NOT want to set foot in Louisiana. Same goes for Albuquerque, NM (due to Breaking Bad) and Miami, FL (due to Dexter).

As for the reinvigoration, one thing about the series is that slayer strength appears to be a bit like Roadrunner physics. How much slayer strength you have depends somewhat on the needs of the plot but mostly on whether you are pissed off enough to actually use it. I hate this aspect of TV shows/movies. I really really hate it.

Just finished Orphan Black (S1).
It seems like it's set in New York and yet, it feels like it was filmed in England, using mostly British actors faking American accents.
In reality, its location is deliberately vague and it was filmed in Ontario, Canada.

Watched the first two episodes of Buffy (season 2). It's not much better than the first season. I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt and will press on.

Watching Scandal (season 2).
Olivia Pope's firm runs its cases as follows:
1. New client gets into some sort of trouble 2. Pope and associates attempt to fix it by committing all sorts of illegal acts 3. Some associates suffer a momentary crisis of conscience 4. They get over it 5. Go to Step 1

If you have a dvr and access to the METV channel, go back and watch some of the golden oldie tv shows. I'm doing that now - watching classic shows before my time.
Using the dvr, was able to watch 5 seasons of The Untouchables. Very good show until seasons 4 and 5. Have just started dvring and watching the original Twilight Zone episodes. Never watched the reruns in my youth.Anyway, a lot of classic tv on METV.

Watching the first season of "The Tudors ". While it may not be 100% historically accurate, I just can't get enough of Henry VIII stuff, or English history in general.

Having too much couch time this summer has lead me to too much television. There is one that against all my odds I have found soo unbelievable yet soo fascinating "Married at first sight". Three couples matched scientifically agree to be married blindly and live together for one month. At that point they are asked do they want a divorce. So many questions like who would ever agree to this let alone be filmed. However I am finding it incredibly fascinating.

Almost done with the 2nd season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I think the significant turn the series takes about 2/3 of the way through is interesting. Angel loses his soul and becomes the vile Angelus again. However, after that, Buffy falls into the Bad-TV-Movie-of-the-Week melodrama trap where everything is about poor little "I lost the love of my life" Buffy...boo hoo. I thought the secret of Giles (the Watcher) was going to be interesting, but it turned out flat. Same with Miss Calendar's gypsy secret. Overall, better than the 1st season, but still lags behind modern day TV shows. I try to watch older TV shows and movies from the POV of the era it first aired. So, when I watch an older TV show, I know the pacing is off and the acting is stiff and the special effects aren't quite special (most are just embarrassingly hiilarious). I keep all this in mind and put my mind in the right context. But sometimes it's difficult. For example, I won't ever be able to appreciate the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band because I can't quite place myself in that time period. I can do it intellectually, but I can't feel it emotionally. I can't seem to erase all the music that came forth since Sgt. Pepper.
Almost done with Supernatural (4th season). Loving the God/Angels vs. Lucifer/Demon conflict.
