100% we are all judged by our appearances. Tall, good looking, in shape people generally get paid more and get more opportunities. Of course, most professional volleyball players will already be tall and athletic.

Of course the prettier players will get the better deals, welcome to reality. Ever heard of Anna Kournikova? Of course you have. Did you know she never won a single WTA title her entire career?

You can't blame pretty(ier) girls from taking advantage of opportunities that are there. After all, the window of opportunity is relatively short. If they don't take advantage of them in their early 20s, it's too late. Why? Well, one thing you can bet your life savings on is that fair-complexioned girls fade in attractiveness REALLY quickly. Once they hit their late-20s and into their 30s, that flower no longer blossoms, know what I'm saying? Sure, they can try cosmetic surgery and botox and other artificial means of retaining their beauty but they won't look better. They'll just look like they had work done. And once they had work done, people don't think, "Hey, look how young she looks!" No, they think, "I feel sorry for her vain ass."

She was also an elite junior who showed a lot of potential as a pro. In spite of a glaringly weak serve, she remained competitive on tour, although her game never developed. A back injury was what finally derailed her career. It's kind of funny how everyone always uses that as a reference for the shallowness of sports without knowing the back story. There are just as many ugly prodigies with million dollar contracts who never panned out, either.

Pro sports is entertainment. Winning teams make money. Whether or not the international volleyball world is ruled by similar sports marketing standards as the states is a good question. Female pro athletes are held to different standards than the men. Watch the ESPN Nine for Nine series for a look into the world of women's sports. Start by watching "BRANDED", then watch "THE DIPLOMAT". These were required viewing for our DD. Our girls need to know the history of female sports and the objectifying attitudes of men.
This thread was surely started by a man.

Women don't watch sports in large enough numbers to make networks money so even sports played by women need to be tailored to a male audience.

I'm just curious on the opinions of others on this topic.

True, she was a good player, no doubt, but the point is her endorsement income was way out of balance with her professional accomplishments, and that was because she was (and is) very attractive.

What is relevant is the millions she made in endorsement deals without ever winning a singles title. She made these millions because of her attractiveness. I'm sure you can name some of these "ugly prodigies" who made Kournikova level money also without winning any titles...

"fair-complexioned girls fade in attractiveness REALLY quickly" Huh?? There are many older, fair complexioned women who are quite attractive.

What is relevant is the millions she made in endorsement deals without ever winning a singles title. She made these millions because of her attractiveness. She might not have had the BEST tennis talent, but at least she had a fair amount. There are others who are famous in our society and who make millions who don't seem to have any discernable talent, but get rich off of their looks and attractiveness alone.

Whether your question is relevant or not, you've already objectified them by asking the question "do pretty girls get better pro contracts?" They are women, not girls. Do the pretty women get better contracts, probably? Just like a 6'2 man makes more money than a 5'8 man.

Guys = men.
