lol. There are plenty of 6' middles playing on top international teams that have no trouble against taller players. Gioli, Juciely, etc. so....are you saying that in your opinion Keil has the potential to be an international superstar? Pretty big gap between being an effective, or even elite MB in the NCAA and being an international superstar.

I think that sometimes John gets a lineup in his head and that's it. Example....Anderson her senior year. We were going to do that 6-2 Hell or high water. I am a big Cook fan and wouldn't want anyone else for our coach but I think he needs to roll the dice sometimes and mix it up. Mix what up? Who else did you want to see in the middle? Kira Larson according for Freewilly Fien presently is not a good enough passer for L2 so....why not move her around.....big thundering hits, long arms, and quick ? Keil....6 ft, quick and a good blocker? Try her at the left and right for kicks. Houghtelling was a average middle with tons of potential. Look what moving her did for the team.

Kiel is a middle through and through. There's no point in moving her.

I was very surprised that NE swept ISU in a straight 4 since it was NE's first Spring match when ISU had already played 9 (4/3 set, and 5/2 set). I thought Hall and Keil played a strong middle - hitting a combined .333 and with 8 of the 15 total team blocks. The breakdown in attack %'s was LS/49%, RS/17%, and M/S @ 38%. I think that NE will have strong middle play come this fall when a non-playing Haggerty is added to the mix, and Larson has more experience to maybe challenge. I thought an "efficient" middle attack was the thing they never quite got together for their tournament run last season. Looking forward to this weekend against Creighton.
** Wish I had a replay. Did anybody else catch when Pollmiller was doing an apparent backset to Keil on a 'slide' and instead backset it to the right back court to one of the Rolfzens. They didn't score the point, but that was different!

Sorry I missed it, but what's going on with Haggerty and her own conditioning program?

Sorry I missed it, but what's going on with Haggerty and her own conditioning program? All the papers said was that she wasn't going to participate in the sand season and was wishing to do individual workouts.

The international trip will be interesting. Obviously you want to get everyone lots of playing time to develop a bench and have players compete for playing time. However, I kind of hope that they really focus on getting the middles and RS involved in their scrimmages. I would even go as far as putting restrictions on how much you can set the OH. Would mean players would have to focus on passing and would give Mary plenty of practice setting them.

Sorry I missed it, but what's going on with Haggerty and her own conditioning program? I think more is being made out of it than should. But her issue isn't getting stronger, its improving her overall fitness level. She was on a different program than the group, with the focus being on her fitness level, quicker, leaner, instead of bigger stronger. As athletes have different challenges, certainly their strength and conditioning program should be adapted for them. Certainly her needs would be different than say Kira Larson, That's the case here.

Also, Meghan did accompany the "sand" team this Spring, just didn't play.

If Saturday's match was any indication, blocking isn't one of Fien's strengths.
