It's the clash of the Ohio Expats! Former Dayton head coach Kelly Sheffield and his Badgers host former Ohio head coach Ryan Theis and his Golden Eagles tonight at the Field House. Once again, Sheffield and some Badgers will be available after the match for Q&A.
Marquette went 2-1 in their first tournament of the spring, sweeping Milwaukee and Southern Illinois before falling to Michigan State in 3 sets. The Badgers beat Minnesota in a scrimmage earlier this month. This is the second time the two teams meet this spring; the Badgers traveled to Marquette a few weeks ago for an evening of team drills.
I haven't seen Marquette play in several years, since Wisconsin played them in the pre-conference season in 2010. I know they're much improved since then, so I'm eager to see how they do tonight under their new coach.
As for Wisconsin, I hope to see more of Blake and Fricano this evening. My bet is that Ito, Kvas, Mikaelsen, and Workman will still be sitting out.
It should be a fun time!

Is Mikaelsen going to see much court this fall? Unfortunately I cannot go tonight. My memories of Thies was Ellen Herman destroying Badgers in Inntowner.

Ellen Herman could terminate. Saw her play several times during her time at Ohio.

Is Mikaelsen going to see much court this fall? Sadly, I doubt it unless she makes a very swift recovery. Being out a full year while Fricano was training and improving probably hurt her chances a great deal. We could wind up needing her maturity on the court, but if I were Sheff and the players' skill level were equal, I'd want to get my redshirt freshman hitter as much experience as possible.

I hope Marquette looks like they did the last time I saw them play. Probably not, though, since that was against USC, who played well while Marquette didn't.

As of the first timeout, Badgers are up 10-6. Marquette getting through our block some, but making service errors and hitting out.
Kvass is dressed, but Mikaelsen, Ito and Workman are not playing. Dom's left leg is taped up both above and below the knee. Blake is not here. Maybe has a class commitment? Graff is in the audience.

Marquette hitting a little timid. Lots of unforced errors. 20-11 Badgers, TO Marquette.

Set 2 is closer. Badgers up 15-13 at the first TO. Marquette still making too many unforced errors, but they've stepped up the scrappy passing.
Fricano is in for Thomas. Girl's got a good arm.
Ellen is playing 6 rotations. Her passing is decent and serve is giving them fits. I've got 4 aces for her so far tonight.

Lets hope Blake has something going on or else that sounds like only 1 middle available.

Are they playing a regular match? I would be curious to find out more about the Seattle tournament. I hope he discusses that.

Lets hope Blake has something going on or else that sounds like only 1 middle available. She's still on the roster. I hope she just has class.

Or is sick. Not that I want her to be sick.
