I think well of this roster. The set of outside hitters is conspicuously the strength of the team. On the other hand opposite is the biggest concern. Why is it always have to be like that?. Opposite hitter is often the big hole on the junior national team. As for setter, the competition is very balanced. Christy Blough is a cut above the others, mostly due to the fact that he had several opportunities to be the starter for the buckeyes this season. Not sure if this junior generation can be world champion next year, but it looks stronger than the previous one for sure. I wonder if TJ DeFalco will be in contention for a spot on the team next year!.

Not sure agree with Christy Blough being a cut above the others. I think Cole Fiers was considered the best setter of last years class. I'm pretty sure Defalco is in a different age group - He would probably make the team if he was allowed to play up.

Opposite is the position that requires the biggest transition from junior play to college, and also from junior play to international competition. How many of even the top club and high school teams use the rightside backrow attack effectively? As for this team, Hessenauer is an opposite, the 'outside attacker' listing is a little silly. I'm pretty sure Faagata, though he's the only player listed there, isn't going to be playing opposite for the team, though you never know, he's normally an outside but he is one of the better threats from the backrow on that list so he could potentially make the switch, though I think it's unlikely. Hessenauer is an absolute monster though, I'll be very surprised if anyone but him gets the starting opposite spot.

Mitch Perinar starts for ultimate 18 gold and has a great shot at starting RS for the team this summer

Did Blough start? Stallings? Fiers?

Blough started and was captain, but almost every player across the board got several reps. Fiers wasn't on the team. Soren Dion-Kindem was in Mexico last year, and I am excited to see who makes the cut this year. Also, Ben Plaisted and Christian Hessenauer are opposites. Hessenauer is incredible. Not sure why Faagata is listed as an opposite, he plays outside for SCVC, and that kid can JUMP. Sadly, I don't know if he'll be able to land a spot among Brenden Sander, Jake Arnitz, and Kupono Fey. I'd say Sander and Arnitz are locks, but I could see Ferguson picking up Boehle as like a DS/libero, that kid's ball control is out of this world

I agree with you about Sander and Arnitz. I can see Boehle playing DS, but not outside. Also, where does Yoder fall into this equation?

pretty sure yoder proved he is best outside hitter in this age group.
especially since head coach is fergie. yoder should be a lock

Hopefully, Arnitz will be healthy. Rumor on the street is that he has back issues, and might not be healthy enough to make a run of it.
Its a pretty good list, with some solid athletes.
I believe Blough started most of the matches for the youth team last year. But with this group, it will be interesting to see which one of the four setters stands out. 3 of the 4 are college freshmen. Fiers was, but did not train with Stanford all year.

Arnitz and I play for the same high school. His back and knees are getting better, he's taking it easy, not playing much until CIF. He should be back 100 percent by summer.

That will definitely be a plus for the team if he can come back healthy.

I'd say Yoder, Arnitz, and Sander are locked in for the OH.

Do you know why Fiers didn't train with Stanford this year? He is listed on Stanford's roster.
