I believe the Rambler name is from back in the first half of the 20th century when Loyola had a football team, but no home field. Loyola and its fans were Ramblers. Yes, we had a home field for football (sport discontinued in 1930, but field remained on campus for the prep school) but it was not a very good quality field. We played some home football games at Wrigley Field. It was both basketball and football. There was a student contest in the early 20s to come up with a mascot name, and the one the students selected (Grandees) didn't stick. Around 1925-26, either the basketball or football team went on a long road trip, and somebody in the student newspaper called the team Ramblers.

I'm sure you are offending some group, somewhere with that name . Ever heard Steve Martin sing that Ramblin' Man song? We know every possible song with the word Rambler in it... Allman Brothers "Ramblin' Man", Joni Mitchell "Help Me", Bob Seger "Ramlin' Gamblin' Man," Ella Fitzgerald "I'm Beginning to See The Light," etc. It was the wealthy alumni that were more offended by the hobo than the Hobo-American community.

On topic, ridiculous. Exhibit 1 as to why the AVCA poll should not be used in any tournament, Womens or Mens. Couple of petty coaches here.

I'm sure you are offending some group, somewhere with that name . I believe they are all going to meet on some freight cars destined for Chicago to protest this disrespectful name. I'm not sure if the Allman Borthers will be there to provide musical entertainment though. It was the wealthy alumni that were more offended by the hobo than the Hobo-American community. That has to be one of the funniest dang things I've read in a while. Had one of those embarrassing snort-laughs upon reading "Hobo-American". Well done! As for the voting of McGowen and Kniffen, that is pety. McGowen is an idiot to provide cannon fodder to a better team that already has home court advantage in the finals. I have to respect Davis for declining to vote. McGowen showed in last year's finals that's he's not the brightest bulb (filling out a lineup card wrong in the finals is a pretty big screw-up), but after Stanford beats them on Thursday it won't really matter to the Loyola team. Assuming Loyola gets past PSU, which I wouldn't count as a done deal yet but is the most likely outcome, they'll be facing Shaw and company rather than the Sander show.

Interesting that BYU not getting the overwhelming mpsf love despite taking down Stanford a few times this year. I'm kind of hoping for Loyola rematch to validate the win back in January where Sander did not have a great game.

Not like it could matter any less at this point, but seriously would not be surprised if Loyola does not get all the first place votes in the final poll.

Yeah, they'll be unanimous #1. Stanford will be unanimous #2. BYU will probably be unanimous #3. After that, it won't be unanimous anymore. Penn State certainly won't be #4 (any more than Erskine will be #6 -- though it would be nice to see them in ARV).
