All things equal, if you were to choose between someone who hits the ball hard or someone with a lot less pace and hits the ball three inches higher, who would you choose?

The answer to that question depends on what else is available because all things are not equal. The biggest deficits right now are in passing and termination, so it's six of this and half a dozen of the other.

You have no idea if Hill hits the ball three inches higher than Robinson on average, and you also have no idea if Hill's ball has "a lot less pace" on it. You're guessing, and attempting to guess low to load your question. Flawed.

Most players don't hit the ball full force all the time, generally when a player really unloads it sounds different and you can tell. I don't think Hill hits as hard as she can every match on every swing, she analyzes the situation and decides how much pace and whether to scum the block or where to hit it to on the floor, just like the rest of the hitters.

If you're presented with a seam, I argue it's better to hit hard. Well, established block, hit high. Using the block and swiping? Hard. Hitting off the top. High. You present so much as black and white when it's not. Someone, I don't recall who, said Hill hit much higher than Robo. I know she's three inches taller, but I asked for something telling me that was the case. I don't have a radar gun but you'd have to be blind and insanely stubborn (pelc) to not acknowledge, without the aid of a radar gun, that robo hits much harder than Hill. Hill has very little pace for an OH. You can see it and we're all a pretty good judge of pace when it's that disparate.

I think it's not a big of a deal because of the offensive pace, defenders are still going to be moving around everywhere till right before one of our hitters hit the ball and sometimes may be out of position. The seams in the block and the hands pointing in weird directions trying to rush to close blocks make it easier to even hit a softer attack into them and sometimes get it to deflect short or out of bounds. Yes it looks more impressive and sounds better to see a huge rip but whatever works works, and Kim has been working.

You present so much as black and white when it's not. You just described four scenarios where you still should hit the ball high, especially at this level. Hitting high doesn't mean slower or deeper; it means attacking the ball at full extension at the peak of your jump and use the angles that that creates for you. You're so hellbent on presenting Hill's game as inferior to Robinson's that you're just being ridiculous.
