We've chatted the last few years about the issues at UCLA. The program needs to, IMO, go back to basics and establish a regional pipeline of So-Cal club players in which they can build a foundation on. Doesn't really matter which one, as there are a number of high quality clubs to choose from (Coast, Sunshine, Wave, T-Street, Rancho Valley etc.). Sealy and staff need to get in good with a club coach, make as much of an effort to be around the program as possible and just start fostering that culture of players choosing UCLA. A pipeline helps for more recruiting as familiar players who have personal relationships can be positive rallying point for future recruits. Lots of quality California players coming up in the 2016/2017 classes, it would be a shame if UCLA missed out on them. UCLA needs to stop losing out on the best So-Cal recruits.

Apparently Sealy has actually been doing the opposite......

Do you think Sealy is unaware that recruiting can benefit from good relations with coaches and directors of top clubs in California? I'm pretty sure he knows this. I'm also sure he faces serious competition recruiting from the top California clubs.

UCLA will be fine. I was at their girls camp last summer and the A court had tons of talent chomping at the bit to show off for all of the coaches.

Lowe, Buechler, Frager, Robbins are all from Wave.

Lowe, Buechler, Frager, Robbins are all from Wave. 4 recruits, in a 4 year span is not really a pipeline. Of course UCLA faces pressure from the other So-Cal schools and national too, but I wonder just how much emphasis they place on developing a strong bond on one or two clubs rather than grasping at various straws throughout the region and nationally.

There's also Reeves, the Machados, etc. Who the hell else is pulling more players from one club?

Also, it's not "grasping" at straws, it's finding players who can help you. I don't even know who WAVE's 16's setter is, should UCLA have offered her over Kylie Miller just to keep the pipeline going?

In Sealy's 4 years he's seen six players from WAVE, 3 players from Sports Shack and 4 from Long Beach Mizuno. If anything the recruiting's been over-reliant on those clubs to fill roster spots.
Also the recruiting coordinator's just been replaced, so who knows what the approach will be?

No need for a pipeline to one club. UCLA should have all of SoCal as a pipeline, not to mention pull nationally.
But most of all, they need to pick one freakin' setter and stick with her, as well as get a terminating L1.

Press release is pretty impressive - makes it sound like she could be the answer at the outside. I'm sure there was a thread about this when it was announced, but I missed it.
