Shoji would have been an awesome National team coach. Was he ever approached to lead the US in the past ? Very early in his career he did help out on some USA programs. But like most coaches the older you get the harder it is to commit to be away from home and family for the extended periods of time required to coach USA teams either in age-group tourneys or major FIVB competitions. I wanna say Shoji did some youth or junior national teams for USAV (USVBA back then) but I am not sure if it was him or his brother Tom who I am remembering.

I wanna say Shoji did some youth or junior national teams for USAV (USVBA back then) but I am not sure if it was him or his brother Tom who I am remembering. i think shoji did. he's also really encouraged younger coaches coming through his program to participate if they can. ah mow-santos is there (actually minneapolis, i think) now coaching/assisting on the junior national teams. altho, i'm sure it didn't take much to convince her, since she came up through the pipeline herself, and no doubt, still has a lot of ties there.
