"Cousins squealed, aunts and uncles cheered, grandparents cried and Gray grinned after she opened a box that contained a big chocolate chip cookie frosted like a volleyball with an N in the middle." ... It doesn't get any better than that Oorah!!! It's a ways off, but 2021's shaping up to be a helluva class - and with two Nebraska girls - fantastic! - Rylee Gray - (Elkhorn South HS, Omaha, NE) - Lindsay Krause (Omaha Skutt HS, Omaha, NE) - Kennedi Orr (Eagan HS, Eagan, MN) - Alexis Rodriguez (Sterling HS, Sterling, IL) GBR!!!!!

VERY outstanding! I was hopeful she’d brush Stanford aside. Ironic that Gray was featured in an article about peer pressure and early recruiting, but chooses NE. Nonetheless, I’m sure she made the right decision. The uncertainty of Stanford admissions can be daunting. Add to that it’s far from home and Stanford will have Campbell (Sr.), Vicini (Jr.), and potentially Annabelle Smith (So.) in 2021

The waiting game can mean offers evaporating. And it’s not just about 4.0 it’s also about test scores, where good gpa doesn’t necessarily = a good score. There are plenty of 4.0 students who don’t score well on the ACT/SAT. I never said she’d have a problem, but not everyone gets into Stanford. Anyways, congrats on a good recruit

Richard Sherman was "accepted" to Stanford and scored a 990 (retake 1080) on his SAT. There are waivers for athletes at Stanford.

Rylee Gray is no Richard Sherman with all due respect. Plus, This is volleyball not football. And with acceptance rates getting lower each year, I’m sure the standards aren’t as low as they were 10 years ago. The 30+ range for the ACT certainly isn’t easy to achieve for many students. I don’t think I’m exaggerating

Rylee had offers from both Nebraska and Stanford for a year before she made her decision. Peer pressure played no part in it, she took her time and finally decided that - all other things being equal or close to equal - that playing close to home was what she cared about the most. In fact, once she made up her mind the only pressure she started to feel was put the obvious consideration that NU - which she finally decided on for a myriad of reasons - was most likely down to possibly one available scholarship for her 2021 class. Get over it, she's a Husker!

Nonetheless, I’m sure she made the right decision. The uncertainty of Stanford admissions can be daunting. Add to that it’s far from home and Stanford will have Campbell (Sr.), Vicini (Jr.), and potentially Annabelle Smith (So.) in 2021 I think Stanford, like Nebraska, are two of the handful of programs with current and future rosters to really compete for final fours and national championships. Nebraska has more depth, currently and projected, at middle blocker when Gray arrives. By your post the Cardinal will have two for sure middle blockers. Maybe additions from the 2021 and 2020 classes. The pin positions are strong, looking to be adding firepower. If Ally Batenhorst picks Nebraska or Stanford or any other program, that program will be getting a difference-maker. If Ally chooses the Cornhuskers, Nebraska will be well stocked at OH, MB, libero/ds and probably setter. NU just needs a second setter for the next three seasons. I know Stanford will be well fortified at these positions too. It takes longer because of admissions at Stanford. I believe Stanford wants the full three years of a recruit’s high school transcripts before announcing any verbal commitments. I always think if a known HS top recruit, who is a top student, hasn’t publicly announced any school choice by the end of her fifth semester she is a Cardinal. In fact if she plays volleyball(don’t know about other sports) and enters her junior year in HS, she is most likely a Stanford recruit. I’m grateful Rylee chose Nebraska because she is a national recruit from Nebraska. We don’t grow those in Nebraska every year. Although we have two in the class of 2021. Stanford is formidable competition in every sport. They will be more than fine. I hope Nebraska wins the commitment from Ally Batenhorst. 2022 recruiting seems distant but could be starting just around the corner. Bizarre, in many sports, seems to be expanding on the national scene.
