This isn't correct. If Hayden called Cook today wanting to commit, he would accept. So she is top 5 at her position? This is good news so can we chalk her up? "Top 5 at her position" doesn't mean anything. Cook evaluates players' skill sets by simply asking himself, "Is she good enough to help us win conference and national championships?" Sometimes there are 10 or more players like that at a position in a given year, sometimes there may only be a couple.

In other words how are we sitting with her?

He grades players on their estimated positions and he weighs his offers against other players within their skill sets. He wants the best across the country who can help him win championships. His offers will stick to his staffs estimation on a top 5 position prospects. I know this.... ok... when he requests tape for 2023s and 2024s within our USA blocks, his emails state, WHO ARE YOUR ESTIMATED TOP 5 POSITION MB PROPECTS or OH PROSPECTS, LIB PROSPECTS. It's a big country to cover.

It's a big country to cover. He just wants tape on the best players. He knows that coaches at one club have no real way of accurately evaluating their talent against players at another club even if they play head-to-head since that just a snapshot in time and they don't have the same teammates, coaches, etc. Again, he just wants to look at as many good players as he can and then decides if he thinks they're going to be good enough to help Nebraska win championships after developing. Cook would be the first person to tell you, for example, that Meyer wasn't a top 5 middle in the country for the 2020 class when he offered her. What he saw was great physical potential and work ethic that he believes can be developed into an elite college middle, and at the very least, can contribute to the team's success. Using arbitrary "top 5 at her position" designations doesn't mean anything. If he wants a player, he wants them. Yes, he may have a preference for one player over another, but when the staff recruits, they assign tiers. The top tier may only have one player at a position, or it can have well over five. Cook will take whomever he can get from that top tier until the roster need is filled. I know that's how he does it, just like other coaches in the program, because I've seen it firsthand.

I haven't heard if she has started narrowing her list. That's a question for Brad, Renae, or Madi.

I think it should be noted that cook doesn’t only recruit nationals championship players. Teams are not that stacked across the board. Yes of course top teams do have many top tier talent. But cook as well as other coaches will recruit some lower top talent (50-100 range recruits). At the top programs these players end up playing by their senior or junior years depending on their development. I think some posters are getting too stuck on “top talent in each position” which is great, but a player who isn’t top 5 in their respective positions can still play at top programs and be recruited

Yeah, perhaps there may not be as great of a pull for Hayden to go to Nebraska because Madi will only be there 1 year when she gets to Lincoln I am glad you are back on here. I miss your recruiting tidbits

I miss your recruiting tidbits But all those years of attending matches with the fam (aka multiple "unofficials"), time spent off the court with sis and [future?] teammates, comfort level increases, like a security blanket. Don't discount the impact of these intangibles in the recruiting process. (Edit: I am not saying there is anything wrong at all with this. It is just a bonus that comes along with already having a sibling on the roster.)

Hopefully she does not have to make a decision for the next several years though!
