The remodel of Bob Devaney and the the 8500+ at every home match hands down #1 recruiting advantage They plan on building a new volleyball arena in 2025. They will be tearing down the city campus rec center and building a new one in a new area. Likely to seat 10,000+ right where the Colosseum is/was. Bigger and better around the corner. This will come out in a few years. Wrestling, track and gymnastics to stay in devaney. Sorry; I looked all over the internet and found no info on said plans! Is this a fact? GO HUSKERS

I'd hate to see a girl with her discus skills give it up! JMHO! If it is too tedious to do both; I would suggest track because of her talents; but maybe her true love is volleyball! At any rate; You Go Girl! Go where your heart is! GO HUSKERS It stands to reason both her throwing and volleyball will suffer to a degree without specializing in one sport. Because of volleyball, Kalynn is unable to bulk up physically as her competition does. She has to sacrifice bulking up in order to maintain some quickness for volleyball. Of course her throwing detracts from time needed in the gym. If she were afforded the opportunity to bulk up about 50 lbs, she would be Olympic material. Even so, she’s damn good regardless!

Talk about a stand-alone volleyball arena and athletic facility for football is picking up steam lately. I don’t know where the new arena would be. I think it would be too crowded for a new arena to replace the NU Coliseum. I would like to see a new arena in a more open area with more land. There’s huge talk about moving Ed Weir Stadium (NU track & field facility) somewhere else so a new football Taj Mahal building can be built in its place. Golf facilities are mentioned along with a new aquatics facility for the swimming and diving teams. So the next building phase in the athletic department is gonna be a whopper! Plans are being put together for improvements to Memorial Stadium. There’s talk about a major overhaul of the south stadium among other things. I’m really interested in seeing the upcoming athletic facilities master plan. It’s been several years since a study was done and a master plan put together.

I've also heard about the track facility being relocated. Considering that, along with a football practice space overhaul (not Memorial Stadium), I can see that area of campus accommodating a new VB facility. I'm drooling a bit!

I'm too old to drool; rather hold my breath in anticipation for 6 years! I thought when they converted Davaney that it could be expanded to 10'000! GO HUSKERS

One reason a facility expansion and relocation makes sense is to get more students into the matches. More seats + centrally located makes sense. Another is to reward the program for excellence and keep them well ahead of the field in amenities. Sometimes you build to improve trajectory, in volleyball's case it's to reward and sustain.

For those that care about "sellouts", that's just a product of tickets sold and not butts in seats, so selling out the ticket allotment is fairly easy. Regarding exclusivity, it's too exclusive right now. While fans can always find tickets via scalpers or by walkup at the box, ultimately it should be more important to allow fans to attend matches at a retail prices. We have quite a few households that want season tickets but they're not available. Expansion allows more students to attend which heightens the atmosphere, allow more households to buy season packages while lowering the donation, and allow more walkups to avoid scalping or standing room only. Obviously, they're not going to build an arena with 15,000 seats, but they could easily get away with 10,000 and maybe even push above that if they get a booster list established to buy excess tickets when needed. Just spitballing, but 12,000 seems appropriate assuming the booster guarantee.

Football is dealing with the opposite problem right now where tickets aren't really "exclusive enough." They should drop capacity by about 5,000 and improve the experience of the fans in the stadium by giving them more than 12 inches to sit in.

Not exactly the best area for parking. And now I'm going to be impatiently imagining how the new arena will look should it get the green light, so thanks for that haha. 85,000 people park somewhere for football so it shouldn’t be any harder for 10,000+ fans for volleyball if they build it there. It would be very close to the football stadium 🏟

Hopefully, if this new arena becomes a reality, the idiots who deemed it a good idea to put the students in four separate sections (when including band), will realize what an assinine idea that was. I would also hope they would treat the friends and family from the visiting teams pass list with a great deal more respect.

I know you have a loaded recruiting class and don’t need her, but could someone who has seen her tell me what Illinois is getting in Kyla Swanson? Thanks.
