The U-17's just wrapped up in Acapulco. On the girls side, the USA went Gold-Silver. I've been told that it's the first time in youth/junior history that two teams from the same country have met in the finals. I'm not going to spend an hour on BVBinfo trying to verify that, so I'll take their word for it. Regardless, pretty impressive feat.
Gold: Morgan Martin (Mission Viejo, CA) and Kathryn Plummer (Aliso Viejo, CA)
Silver: Joy Dennis (Cypress, CA) and Haley Hallgren (Southlake, TX)
The two U.S. boy's teams both finished ninth in the competition.
Will Bantle/Robert Mullahey were knocked out in the second round of elimination matches by the eventual Bronze Medal winning team from France. Aidan Brown/Lucas Lossone also lost in the second round to the eventual Gold Medalists from Spain. Tough second round draws for the USA teams.
Overall, really good tournament for Team USA.

Kathryn Plummer was also selected as Most Outstanding Athlete at the World Championships. Not a bad summer for a 15 year old, Junior in high school to be, teenager. GYNT Captain and silver medalist at 2014 NORCECA U18 Continental Championships, 2014 GJNC 16 Open All Tournament Team and now a FIVB U17 Beach World Champion! Wow! Congratulations to a very talented young player.

Do you know any of the teams playing in the U21?? I don't recognize any of the names besides Sara Hughes and Alexa Strange www.fivb.org/EN/BeachVolleyball/Competitions/U21/2014/1 Branden Clemens 2 William Jackson Bantle 1 Hagen Smith 2 Christopher Orenic 1 Sara Hughes 2 Kelly Claes 1 Delaney Knudsen 2 Alexa Strange

Claes won the bronze with Hughes at the U19 FIVB event in 2013. I think she is also going to USC to play sand.

Claes plays with Hughes at USC. 6'2"-6'3," really good young player (I think she's only 18). She and Sara just won a CBVA AAA against a very good field. As klazk mentioned, they won bronze in last years U-19 Worlds - lost in the semi's to the eventual Gold medalist team from Brazil. Knudsen plays for Pepp, another good young player who was also on the USA U-19s last year (knocked out by the same Brazilian team, who were really freaking good). The U-21 field is really tough this year - it includes some world tour teams, and that same Brazilian team is back. Their stud player, Eduarda, is only fifteen. She's a 6-foot Larissa. Bantle plays at UCLA, Palisades kid who's a beach rat (in a good way) - been playing beach since he was a grommet. Hagen Smith is a setter at UCLA, and is Sinjin's son - so his beach VB experience is obviously extensive. Trivia: He was named for beach legend Ron Von Hagen. Clemens is a big from, I think, Indiana who plays at Harvard. He was on last year's U-21 team. Orenic is another beach kid from Manhattan Beach, plays at USC.

Don't get a chance to follow the women's sand too much.

Claes actually played her matches with Strange at USC in the 2014 season. Hughes played with Kirby Burnham.
