I've seen quite a bit of Gillis, and I would say that passing/defending are easily her two strongest skills. USC will not lose much with her in the back row. While that may be true, I don't trust any freshmen to walk in and consistently pass and defend at a national championship level, NO freshmen. I get what you're saying, but thankfully Gillis doesn't have to walk in and right away pass at a "national championship" level. She gets to work her way up to it, in practice, in pre Pac 12, and during the Pac 12 season. At any point along the way, if she isn't able to get the job done, then Mickey can make an adjustment. But Gillis is capable of passing, and worthy of training to become "national championship" level.

Your list is a mess (Deja? Her freshman year?), but wtf? Here's six: Burgess, Howard, Reeves, Croson, Rolfzen, Courtney. That took me about 12 seconds to think of, so I'm gonna bet there's a ton more out there. And your point is totally off base-national championship level is so much more about attacking, serving and passing AS A TEAM than it is about 1 player's ability to dig in the back row. You can say ball control is unproven/might be a liability, but there's no mythical "national championship level" of defense. Ruddins or Gillis/Schmidt (who is really, really good by the way) will probably not be as good of a ball control-digging tandem in aggregate as Hagglund/Shaw, but they won't need to be. L2 and R2 are going to be much more terminal, I expect the team's serving to take a big step forward (particularly if they setter/middle sub in the 6-2), and Abercrombie might walk into the gym as the Trojans' best pin blocker in years. I'm not predicting the Trojans win it all (hello, Stanford!), but your reasons for disqualifying them don't make sense. All American, is that you? Nope. Many people recognize your bullsh*t.

All American, is that you? Shockingly, there might be more than one person out there who disagrees with you. It isn't the disagreement it's the tone, seemed all to familiar

Who will Win the Pac-12? I have to go with Stanford, b/c of experience
Who will be Coach of the Year? If ASU is top 3, I would elect him. If not, I'd go with Dunning
Who will be Player of the Year? Nwanebu if they win the Pac-12, Vansant if they do not
Who will be Setter of the Year? Bugg
Who will be Freshman of the Year? Ambercrombie
Who will be Libero of the Year? Kyle Gilbert
How many/Which teams will make the post season?
Stanford, USC, Washington, Colorado, Cal, ASU, Utah, Oregon,
(will be home watching) UCLA, Wash St.(bubble team) Arizona, Oregon St.
Will a Pac-12 team win the National Championship? USC/Stanford
I am excited for Volleyball season to start.

702-
I'm guessing that you just missed adding UCLA to your list as opposed to dumping them from the Pac-12? Are they in or out of the tournament?

What happened with Croson is she just playing beach or is she completely done at Arizona? The details are between her and U of A, but I wouldn't expect to see her playing either sport at Arizona going forward. Very sad, but very true.

You know...I'm a little shocked at how few people think Vansant won't repeat as Pac-12 POY. My homerism aside, why do people think that she won't repeat? Especially considering that the competition mentioned here are 3 rotation players, and 3 rotation players almost NEVER win the award.

Nwanebu is expected to play 6 rotations this year, at least that is what was hinted at last year by Haley. Inky only plays 3 rotations, but there is no denying that she is a game changer for Stanford, much like Wopat was when she was in the running for Pac-12 POY.

Abercrombie sounds good enough to keep SC in a 6-2 with rotating OPP.
