Rose ruthless? Russ is strategically pre determined and will play the 6 that can play best together and win. Realism not ruthless!

I read an article about UCLA when Lew Alcindor was an incoming freshman and in those days the freshmen could not play varsity sports. Anyway, Wooden held a scrimmage at some point and the freshmen beat the upper classmen soundly in basketball. The point of this story is that you never know what to expect from freshmen until you see them in competition as part of the team.

I don't think the poster meant ruthless as mean, nasty, and such (at least that's how I read it). I think he meant it as a compliment as in being bold, risk taker, and etc.

The point of this story is that you never know what to expect from freshmen until you see them in competition as part of the team. The best part of this story is the the freshman team beat the National Champions, so the '65 UCLA freshman team with Alcindor was actually the best team in the country, not the varsity. I'm pretty sure Hambly wants to win as much as Rose, Cook, or any other successful coach, but he perhaps has a bias toward leadership, chemistry, and experience over jump touches and hitting percentage differential. After all its often very few plays that decide a match, in the ultimate team sport, and all of these can play a factor in the outcome.

Dorothy makes a lot of sense but playing freshmen can give coaches gray hair very quickly. Fortunately, Russ looks good with gray hair.

Well then tell Hambly that (as the poster was implying).
