I would go Florida Kentucky Alabama LSU Missouri Texas A&M Arkansas Georgia Auburn Then the final four fighting among themselves for victories Ole Miss, Miss St, Tennessee, S. Carolina You all got Tennessee wrong.
GO LADY VOLS!Sorry, but I think Tennessee is in for another long year. The question with Tennessee is if Rob can survive another year if they finish in the bottom 3. Doesn't look like he is bringing in the recruits to make a quick turn around. He only brought in one PrepVolleyball senior ace and that was an honorable mention, not in the top 100. According to PrepVolleyball rankings the only team in the SEC that brought in less freshmen talent was Mississippi State with no senior ace recruits.

I believe that Tenn can make a big move up this year because their isn't much talent in the conference outside of Florida. I talked with someone who said that Kentucky has two awesome athletes, one a freshman and the other a redshirt so maybe they can keep up. But if you compare this list of all conference players to other big conferences the SEC is pretty far behind. There are kids in Pac and Big 10 and Big 12 that would be best players in SEC. Tenn has some good young players so they will be better than most think.

If you want to discuss SEC volleyball then try to do a little research first. The SEC has 26 of the PrepVolleyball top 100 Senior Aces committed for the class of 2014. That is a trend that started a few years ago and is gaining steam. True the SEC is still behind those conferences but the gap is closing. You've also got to do a little more to defend Tennessee's recruiting and predicted upturn. Out of the 26 PrepVolleyball top 100 Senior Aces committed to the SEC Tennessee got 0. And only 1 of the top 250. With the exception of MSU everyone in the SEC finished better last year AND brought in better recruiting classes than Tennessee. That doesn't make for a bright future for the Vols.

Is Jimenez eligible for the senior aces? What about the transfer setter from Long Beach State? If we are talking about senior aces Tenn has some on the roster that are now sophomores who played all of last year. Mariani, Lea, and Hembry (what were their rankings on you precious senior aces list?)are a solid group that are still there and now they add a few players that your senior ace list never know about. Do you know anything about Turner or Bryant or Tavikoli(sp)? Just wait. Long year last year but Rob knows how to win in the SEC. Anyone beaten Florida more than him? You just are hoping that they stay at the bottom but they won't.

Missouri with a vote to finish first in the SEC?!?! At least one voter has a sense of humor. Way to understand coaches polls!

Agree with brevvball. Tenn may be a surprise underdog. Lots of athleticism on the roster and could produce some very strong defense. I'm not predicting SEC champs or anything, but much higher than 11th is not impossible. The frosh from last year have grown up a lot, taking their lumps last season and learning from them. Watch for them to be much more competitive this year.

I don't wish TN ill, I hope they are fighting for the top spot in the conference soon. The only way the SEC is going to get where it needs to be is for there to be 4-5 SEC teams battling for national poll ranking and that many more receiving votes. The only way the SEC is going to challenge the Big 10, Big 12 and PAC 12 elite is to be challenged every week in conference play. Having SEC teams with triple digit RPI rankings helps no one.

Polls? Solid thinking. They mean so much. The conference had 8 teams get into the tournament and none went to the 2nd weekend. Polls and RPI are far from the issue. What we need to be is good. Good enought to have multiple sweet 16 results would be nice. As would a final 4 team. Whether or not we beat up on each other every time is irrelevant.

It's not an accident that the teams in the sweet sixteen and the final four are the teams at the top of the polls. Polls matter, RPI matters (for seeding and hosting purposes) and ultimately tournament wins matter. If we are performing well in any two of these the other will take care of itself. If SEC teams are good it will be reflected in the polls. If you play against tough competition more consistently then you will get better. None of these things are isolated, they are related and go hand-in-hand.

I went to the Orange and Blue scrimmage this afternoon. As usual with these things, there was some good and some bad.
The good: Detering, Santos-Lamb and hustle. Detering had some timing issues with hitters, as to be expected, but I think she will be one of Florida's best setters in a while before she's done. She has good hands, gets to the ball quickly on bad passes (more on that in the bad) and is an aggressive swinger when the chance arise. Santos-Lamb was the most consistent of the outsides and will add some needed power on serving to complement Unroe. The defensive effort was very good with players flying and falling all over the court to get balls.
The bad: the serve receive issues don't appear to have improved much, though it is early. The very first pass of the scrimmage was a bad one. Yikes. Detering and Taylor B., who was filling in for an absent Dagostino, had a lot of running to do. I could be wrong, but I believe someone posted that Holston will be playing back row. She didn't play it in the scrimmage.
General: Alhassan had some nice hits and blocks, but she is raw. Recek played opposite quite a bit, but she was on the team without Holston. Belcher was a pleasant surpise. Unroe and Monserez, playing on the same team, swapped out at libero. Snyder is as skinny as a stick but she was better than I thought she would be with more power than I would have thought.
Afterward, several of the hitters took part in a jumping contest. They were equipped with a sensor that relayed to an electronic gizmo the number of inches they jumped to hit balls tossed up Boos. I believe Joseph jumped the highest, but I could be wrong on that. I know it was not Alhassan.

I was there too. I was really impressed by Carli Snyder! Her passing was definitely better than any of our other outsides and she swung fearlessly. I think you may be mistaken about Holston playing backrow because I know she did in that 3rd set at least. She was playing defense behind Detering (and doing it quite well, if I may say so!) She seemed like she was the leader (at least in performance) on that side of the net.
Overall, it was fun to see the freshmen. Excited about the talent of Snyder and Alhassan. Really missed seeing Dagostino out there, I think the team needs her confidence at setter, at least until Abbey gets her confidence and connection with the hitters. Interested to see what'll happen with all the OHs on the roster. My guess after today for starters at OH would be Snyder and Recek.

I know it was not Alhassan. Holston was playing all around like Murphy does in spring, im assuming when fall starts she should be back there, but the passing wasn't that bad in the spring with the normal lineup. Don't take too much stock into spring matches and orange and blue scrimmage, or preseason matches. We normally have been passing at a high enough rate to run an effective offense, its just a few shanks at critical moments in sets that always do us in when its tight. You can be a great passing team most of the season then shank balls when it counts most :/

Actually, Holston won the jumping contest at 35" and a fraction. Joseph was next and then Alhassan with 31+. All of them would have touched around 11 feet. We have some fine hitters, servers, and good middles. Good depth on defense. Work to do on serve receive. Detering looked as good as Brauneis who filled in for an absent Dagosttino. Anyone know where Mackenzie was?
