How about some commentary for the teams receiving votes? New Mexico? UTSA with 3 votes? Blame Chantale Riddle for Mew Mexicos votes, they''lol probably finish second in the MWC. UTSA is probably going to win Conference USA which is one of the better non power conferences. Possibly the votes come from coaches within the conference or region.

American? Oregon gets knocked out for Creighton? At least we can conclusively say that certain posters feelings about the poll being irrevocably biased towards the PAC-12 are unfounded. This poll is mostly useless - biased too much towards how teams finished last season. However, Creighton is absolutely a top 25 team this year.

With Wisconsin and penn state, the voters focused to much on the tournament. Penn state lost 3 all Americans. Like you said, they shouldn't be 1. They might be at the end if their freshman pan out, but as of now, they should be 3-5 IMO This happens every season, and we have the same discussion every season: Voters will vote the previous season's national champion as the preseason number 1. When's the last time this DIDN'T happen? Stanford won the title in 2004 and was not voted number one pre season 2005

Some surprises... PAC12 seems top heavy this year. Will be interesting to see if feasting on RU and UMD will help keep more B1G teams in... Not feeling the American love, call my unpatriotic
But I can get behind any poll that doesn't rank M*ch!g@n

1 Stanford
2 Texas
3 Washington
4 USC
5 Penn State
6 Wisconsin
7 Purdue
8 Florida
9 Nebraska
10 Illinois
BYU would've been my #11. I love Hamson and Gray, but after the pre-season we'll go most of the year not knowing how good they really are.
I should also note that if Nebraska figures out their middles, I would've had them higher, e.g. #6.

Whisky gets 8 first place votes from coaches! Thaat shows a lot of respect! I think Stanford should be #1! GO HUSKERS It shows a lot of laziness or stupidity IMO. I think UW is very good, but #1? I do not, and neither do they. I don't believe they should be #1 either; I was pointing out that they got a lot of respect! As to whether the coaches were lazy or stupid is not for me to decide! I agree with you on PSU, but they will do OK! GO HUSKERS

GO HUSKERS I think that getting 8 first place votes (which is more than #3, #4, and #5) yet falling 6th overall shows that there is a pretty decent divide between coaches who think they should be/will be the best and those who think last year was a fluke.

I wonder if this poll is based more on respect for the coaches than for the players themselves. Southern Cal should be ranked higher perhaps.

When's the last time this DIDN'T happen? Yeah it happens every year. But for the more egregious situations, you'd think it would occur to some of these voters that some of last year's top 25 teams graduated really good players. Like Mizzou. Are they even top 25 now?

Over UW? debatable, but definitely over the field. I just don't think that Wisconsin's overall body of work for 2013 justifies them starting out preseason #1. But I digress, someone has to be there.

Voting Penn State number 1 is foolish and unfair to the other elite teams returning most of their starters. It would be a miracle for them to even win their league with all those freshmen.

I agree. Its a combination of what you bring back and what you did last year, in that order. UW didn't have a top 5 team, they went on an incredible run. Do they have a better roster than PSU, Stanford, Texas, Nebraska, UW, USC?
