Does this team finish in upper half or bottom half of B1G? Middle/upper middle.

That's easy. NO WAY do they finish 8th or lower. 5th or 6th would be my prediction. No way? PSU, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Purdue, and Illinois will all be jockeying in the top half of the league, that's 6 teams right there that may finish above Minnesota. I would put them at 7th, but that's pretty close to "no way" territory.

State lost some firepower and I believe Illinois is the most overrated team in the B1G right now. Both will obviously be tournament teams, but I still think Minnesota will finish above both. The Gophers aren't as mediocre as everyone seems to believe this season.

Why would I bet on them finishing lower than 7th when I think that's where they'll end up? I'm not sure you know how betting works. Either you'd have to give me odds, or you'd have to make a bolder bet to get an even money wager.

I'll go $100 for $125. They won't finish lower than 7th. 5th or 6th most likely. 4th is probably the ceiling.

I think its quite a stretch to say "high probably" they finish 7th/8th, but to each their own...

Well, he didn't. He said 6th to 8th.
I still think 7th is the lowest this team can finish, what with the talent and coaching they have. Not to mention that the other 7 teams aren't as good as they are.

Past performance is not necessarily a predictor of future performance. Sure, there are teams that sustain success, but that's not automated, it's because those programs work their tails off to keep it rolling. Not saying Minnesota isn't one of those programs, I think they can be, but I'm just giving my/one man's assessment of how the teams happen to line up this year, not in previous or future years. When I look at this Gopher squad in relation to their conference competitors, I don't think they're top 3-4, and will have to fight very hard to claim even 5th, JMO.

I think we can all agree that the Gophers aren't top 3/4 material this season. The debate seems to be whether they can sustain a good enough level of success despite the loss of Wittman/Dixon to stay in the 5-6 range, or whether they've taken a big drop to becoming a mediocre big ten team (finishing 7th or 8th). I still think the former, but we'll see how it all plays out.

Any predictions for Friday's match against Notre Dame? I know very little about their team. Any guesses on a starting setter for MN?

I think people here are underestimating the range of possiblities for Minnesota this year. If UCLA can finish in 10th place in the PAC last season, then there is a plausible scenerio for Minnesota also finishing that low. There is also a plausible scenerio where they finish in the top 3. Way too much uncertainty with this kind of turnover and such a balanced conference.
