Their libero choices were interesting. No Maloney or Sauer? Liberos seem to be undervalued by these kinds of lists, even the Senior Aces rank them lower than might be expected.

How can you not have Lauren Speckman on the list? She is a JR setter from Archbishop Mitty. Last year, they were California state champions and ended the season ranked #1 in the nation by Max Prep. She also set the USA youth national team to a gold medal and is a Marquette commit. This is even more astounding in light of what tsunami said about the GA setter. This is only their pre season all American list so maybe max preps will get it right next time. Was Speckman a starter last year?

] Looks like a reasonable list, any surprise inclusions or omissions? It looks like a reasonable list with the exception of the 5'6" setter from GA. Max Preps incorrectly list her as 5'9". I'm not sure how she was put on a list with setters like Gray, Pickrell, and Lingenfelter. She is not in the same league. I realize this is a high school list but a player who hardly played as a DS and rarely sets on her club team is not an all american. How does max preps get their information? It's apparent they haven't watched this player. Her high school coach is her mother so maybe that's the answer. [/quote] again, these are based on high school statistics and results...the player to which you refer i'm pretty sure started as a 6 rotation setter last year on the best team in the state of GA...this year, however, i believe she is playing a 6-2, and will likely not get the stats needed to make the list

i believe these are solely based on high school performance, thus if the players you listed do not play on consistent state champion high school teams and break state stat records, then they won't make the list... Populations: California 38 million Iowa 3 million Nebraska 1.8 million San Diego County 3 million Therefore CIF Sec Championship is the equivalent or better than a state championship in many states. The overall talent is deeper in some areas and the ball is spread around, so using stats of state champions is a crude methodology.

How on gods green earth is team USA member Savannah Rennie left off this list? She was also only listed as the "Next 30" on the top 50 junior recruits. Man, a kid playing for Torrey Pines flying under the radar is beyond me Agree on Rennie. She and Smith-Gooden are going to make a powerful combo at Cal

Dizzy
Dont think Speckman started last year. Mitty was division II state champs and has a very deep team. Understand they have another setter that will be in the mix for them as well as Lauren. As far a national team, the tourney in Mexico directly conflicted with the 16's at junior nationals. As such many girls who might have tried out, didn't. For instance none of the girls from top seeded Az Thunder tried out, none from runner up TAV, none from KC Invasion(#2seed) 2 girls did make team from T-street(# 3 seed), and none from Laguna Beach VBC (#4 seed). So it wasn't the cream of the crop team. Not to take anything away from Lauren, as she was among the best in the nation at the club level last year , but I think this list is based on high school achievements. Marquette got a real good one. Max preps really needs to scub that list.
