Thanks for sharing this info, I was curious what she was doing these days. PSU has had some fine middles but very few were six rotation elite payers, of course the game has changed. I am not convinced yet that Washington could not become a solid back row player like Deja was, though she certainly isn't there now. Are you well

It has been a while since Penn State has had an dominant MH like Cacciamani but perhaps Washington can bring back the memories. Lauren Cacciamani, one of the all time great Penn St. players who was a Middle blocker....... Cacciamani is definitely nominated for my WONDER WOMAN award. (Videeo of Penn St. first championship in Hawaii defeating a Stanford team with Logan Tom and Kerri Walsh ) Cacciamani married a guy named Laurence Tom and named her second son Logan Tom. I am not kidding!! www.northjersey.com/sports/cacciamani-hasn-t-gotten-volleyball-out-of-her-system-1.261937It says that she would want to get involved with coaching volleyball down the road. I don't know how she is as a coach, but wouldn't it be every Penn State fan's dream to have her and Salima together with RR on the sideline? I have always loved her as a player.

We have 9 DS'es! Besides, it will be Courtney/Franti before Washington even get a chance anyway. True that Nia Grant played backrow, but it was only because she was a good server.

Grant played "backrow" because one middle HAS to serve, and it's a waste of TWO substitutions to sub her out everytime she goes back to serve. Grant got the nod as the middle to serve because as you point out, she has a good serve, plus Russ saved Katie Slay from embarrassing herself attempting to dig a ball. I put backrow in quotes because serving for a half rotation is NOT playing backrow, it's fulfilling a serving rotation, thats all. Any comparison to Cacciamani as a complete 6 rotation player is completely moot because the Libero will play for the middles backrow.

Sure it would be a waste if you have a middle that's also a good server. But you don't have to have a middle back there, especially with 15 allowable subs.

Obviously, era's can't be compared, but regardless, it's clear to me that the PSU exceptionalism has jaded you. That, or you are fishing for someone to pump up prior players, regardless, it's lame. Harmotto? Wilson, even Slay. These are players who, throughout their careers, contribute 4+ points per set, at a very high, .400+ efficiency and many All American awards themselves... And that's all while playing with at least two All American pin hitters on the team. How many other middles can claim that? What, exactly, is your standard of a "dominant" middle these days?

Ho many times did Harmotto, Wilson, or even Slay score forty eight (that is 48) points in a match? That is what I call very dominate. Anyway, I see tremendous potential in Washington on the court. If coaches choose not to develop it further, so be it.

You can't even compare today's game to this match. The talent level as a whole is so much higher than that of 15 years ago. Cassiamani (sp?) was an outstanding player in her time. But if she played in today's system of volleyball she would be used just the same as Harmotto, Slay and Wilson were used. The Libero position has changed the game, and I'm not sure if it's for the better.

If coaches choose not to develop it further, so be it. So you think Washington has great potential as a 6 rotation player and that the Penn State coaches might not choose to develop this talent? Presumably because they don't recognize it like you do or because they for some other reason don't want to develop the talent on the team? Are you back to having a negative opinion about the coaching at Penn State? Or is it still great coaching but perhaps with a blind spot about seeing Washington's potential?

And from the videos of Washington's high school/club games, she is not even playing 6 rotation. It is kinda odd that it was even brought up.
