My thoughts:
- Paige Tapp was a pleasant surprise. Didn't know what to expect from her but I thought she was MN's most consistent player on the court for the weekend. Hit well, blocked well, and even had a few back row digs.
- From warm-ups, it looked like Hannah Tapp's serve was more formible. But, it was Paige who served all weekend.
- Passing is still an issue. Hopefully, Rosado and Goehner settle in and get better.
- Not sure why Nora served over Goehner. Nora wasn't serving particularly strong and didn't hit out of the back row. If you are going to replace her for a DS when her serve is over, why not have the DS serve and have their defense on the court?
- This team is going to be challenged offensively. Can't count on Wilhite to carry the team each match.
- Speaking of Wilhite, confidence appears to have been an issue in the past, so I've heard. She was blocked early in the 2nd set last night and I was interested is seeing how she would respond. She was set on the next point, took a strong swing, and terminated. That was good to see.
- mnsports255 - Goehner is not better than Carlini.
- As has been discussed on this thread, I didn't understand MN's serving strategy. Too many lollipops to the middle of the court leading to perfect passes leading to a quick middle attack leading to a strong Louisville point. Too many times!
- Dear MN middles - if Louisville gets a perfect pass, it will be a quick 1 attack. Be ready!
- Seemed like Daly fell in love with the roll shot to the middle of the court. She had success with it on Friday vs. Notre Dame but Louisville was camped out for it.
- It was awkard on Friday night watching the ushers kick out long time season ticket holders from the endline bleachers. Some of those fans have been sitting there for 5 years or more. Just to be kicked out for students who arrived 5 minutes before the match and left after the second set.
- Also discussed on this thread was the cost of concessions. I don't mind paying more for a good product but the pricing is much to high for low quality food. There really aren't many options. The Subway stand is probably the best option but the concession stand food is pitiful.
- Schau needs to trust her team defense. Too many times she took the first contact with Rosado or Goehner right behind her.
- All that being said, MN played 5 players regularly last night who are either freshmen (Rosado, Goehner) or saw limited playing time last year (Schau, Wilhite, P Tapp). It may take them a couple of weeks to settle in. Problem is, they don't have much time as they cannot afford to be close to .500 during the non-conference portion of their schedule if they are to qualify for the tournament.
