Power Rankings - not who's better, but a reflection of performance so far.
1. Stanford: Domination
2. UW: Not as concerned about going to 5 with the Zags because of last year. More concerned with ease with which the NW schools scored against them. Might be feeling the loss of 2 strong servers and floor defenders.
3. USC: Grade is "incomplete" until Nwanebu comes back. Mick has proven he can put together a sufficient passing team out of meh receivers before.
4. ASU: Got the road win over Hawaii and survived a letdown match against a pesky Ohio team. Willey looks a LOT better this year. Arrellano will need to improve.
5. Oregon: Down a 6-rotation outside, pounded Ohio St. regardless. Pushed to 5 against Illinois St., but that's a good team and the Pablo-aware will note Ducks outscored the Redbirds by 30(!).
6. Arizona: I admit, I'm not high on the 'Cats, but 3 wins against solid opponents including a sweep of K-State gets them props for now. How long can Kingdon carry them?
7. Oregon St.: Destroyed St. Mary's, also took care of solid Utah St. and Idaho St. teams. OSU had size that was not good at volleyball last year, maybe Terry coached them up? MK Marshall is a huge upgrade over the Turkish girl. Not sure it'll last but good for the Beavs.
8. Colorado: Gave up a bunch of big leads in a 5-set loss to Northwestern. Get a pass because Austin may not be 100%.
9. Cal: Concerning scorelines against some weak competition. Young talented team will get better with seasoning.
10. Utah: Held serve at home. Not sure how good the opposition was.
11. UCLA: Passing and setting are terrible. The new L1 can't keep the ball in the court. Karsta can score, but her inability to do anything else well doesn't let her carry the team like Kingdon can. Could see them losing 3-5 more matches before conference begins.
12. Washington St.: I don't know if Wyoming is a good team, but that's one the Cougs had to have.
