Considering it's only the 2nd week of the season, there are a surprising number of matchups between Top 10 & Top 20 teams. It's almost like a tourney-time preview.
Based on the AVCA Poll, which of the top teams do you expect to lose to lower-ranked teams?
PICK UP TO THREE (3)

I think Stanford is the favorite over Penn State. Illinois over Stanford is also possible, I'd imagine Stanford is much more focused on PSU and isn't thinking much about Illinois. BYU over Washington and Oregon over Hawaii are also very likely.

I wouldn't call an Oregon victory over Hawai'i an upset (despite their respective positions in the AVCA poll) considering that Nikki Taylor is still out of the lineup for the Rainbow Wahine. That said, sorry Oregon, not going to happen this weekend.

Stanford over PSU at home and not have started school yet is not an upset.

Ross rose ranked his team 6 which I believe is about right considering the young team they have. They will be much better at end of season when they have gelled. I do agree with another post saying if Stanford can't beat psu now, they're certainly not gonna beat them at end of season when they have played together full season. Stanford should win this matchup. Plus Stanford's at home. Different then having to go to rec hall. I just wanna see psu put up good fight. I think that's all psu fans hope for this early in season

One could justify every single one of the above losses as "NOT" an upset.
However, as stated in the question, this is about current AVCA Poll rankings and the interesting number of early season top match-ups.
If the current #2 team beats the current #1 team, that qualifies as an upset, regardless of the excuses.

Not on the list - Wisconsin at Colo. State. But I picked BYU.

This is suppose to be rebuilding year for psu. I know a rebuilding year for psu isn't typical of most teams. For them it means making Atleast elite 8.

Strictly on the rankings, Stanford will "upset" PSU. Too much experience for Stanford, and PSU having to fly across the country won't be helpful.
Didn't watch Illinois play this weekend, but would be surprised if they took a set from Stanford on the road.

On paper it is in Stanford's favor but both of these teams are so good in so many areas. It will certainly be entertaining. This young squad could pull this off. Win or lose, Stanford should not overlook Illinois.

I should have included Wisconsin, because I was thinking how unusual it seems to be that the top 5 teams in this weeks poll are ALL playing teams that are ranked in the top 20.

Seems like BYU over Washington is the popular pick. It wouldn't be a huge surprise seeing as everyone is saying Hamson is the best OPP in the country, along with Gray being great as well. I will be rooting for Vansant, Nelson and Company to take this one on the road. I lived in SLC for awhile so being so close to the U you learn to like BYU a lot less.

By the way, no one is going to overlook Wisconsin. All that 2013 hype and playing in the title game, not to mention of course, CARLINI! CSU will pull out all the stops for Wisconsin.
