Double sub to get Murphy in, rotate the liberos receive/defense, and set 1 foot higher. We win. OH Larson OH Robinson MB Harmotto MB Akinradewo OP Fawcett S Glass L Banwarth Fawcett will not be starting at opposite...frankly if she doesn't play well, she might not even be the #2 opposite. Hildebrand, Hill, and Dixon can also play on the right and have done so in the past. I completely agree on the sets though. I think the US could finish anywhere from 3-7. Pool A is the pool of death, as Brazil, Bulgaria, Serbia, and Turkey are in it. One of those teams won't be advancing to the next round.

I am just going to support the team, these girls have worked hard. Would've loved to see Tom and Hooker on the team though!

I don't know that they have a chance against Brazil, even with Harmotto. Bulgaria, Serbia, and Turkey are VERY talented teams. Many of their starters play for the top club teams in the world. We still don't have an L2, Foluke doesn't look as good as she did prior to 2012, and Glass has had location issues. I think we'll be competitive, but I'm not holding my breath.

They're in pool C with Russia, Thailand, Mexico, Netherlands, and Kazakhstan. It seems like a relatively easy pool with Russia and U.S.A as the two teams that will most likely advance. italy2014.fivb.org/en

If this were the line-up 6 of 7 starters are from two programs. Did the math a few months ago, 90% of the WNT players come from, I think it was 6 colleges and/or 4 clubs. Nebraska PSU Texas Stanford USC Washington Sports Performance Encinitas Wave ? Northern Lights I forget exactly who it was but the list was something like this.

It's almost certain we make it to Round 2. Our C Team could do that, all we need is to get 4th or better among those 6. Even if we lose to Thailand again we'd still get through easily.
Getting past round 2 (into the Top 6) will be the tough qualification--our men's team just failed to do so. We'd have to finish 3rd or better in a super pool that includes Russia, Brazil, Serbia, Bulgaria, Turkey. Obviously we have the raw talent to qualify for Top 6, but recent results make it questionable.

I believe only the top 3 advance from each pool. I think Bulgaria is the wild card of the tournament. They could finish in the top 4 or out of the top 12.

No. The 2nd round pools have 8 teams. 4 advance from each pool in Round 1. 3 advance from each pool in Round 2. italy2014.fivb.org/~/media/fivb2014/competition/italy/fivb_volleyball_womens_world_championship-italy2014_match_schedule_en.pdf

Ah my mistake. I actually think that may help the US a bit. I think we will match up well with Serbia and Turkey. We can beat all of the team in our opening pool. It would be fascinating if Russia went with Kosheleva and Obmochaeva on the left and Gamova on the right.

I hope they go with that line up.
