The Toyota Auto Body "Queenseis" beat the Rainbow Wahine in five sets: 27-25, 25-19, 21-25, 20-25, 15-10. As expected it was a defensive battle with both teams involved in long, unbelievable rallies. There were bodies flying all across the floor with amazing saves. Very entertaining to watch. Kalei Greeley had a good match leading the Bows in kills with 16. The middles Magill and Adolpho had good matches too. The freshmen had extensive playing time, including Kendra Koelsch, Megan Huff, and Emily Maglio. They were okay but none played well enough for anyone to clamor for their starting. They looked lost at first, especially Maglio, but as they got more playing time improved their performance.

It was a fun match. Taylor didn't play for the Wahine, and as expected, Danielson sat for the Queenseis. I think the Queenseis struggled a little with Hawail's size at the net in game 1 but they figured it out as the match wore on. It was good for the Wahine to play a team with the kind of speed that Toyota Auto Body has because they are not going to face a team as fast for the rest of the season. Proud of the Bows, they hung in there and competed against a scrappy, more athletic, and more experienced team. The Wahine outblocked and outhit the Queenseis but still lost because they struggled with service errors, yet again. They really need to clean that part of their game up, especially Higgins, Olevao, and Mendoza. Hawai'i can learn a lot from a team like Toyota Auto Body, especially their running around-in-a-circle celebration after every point. The Wahine should adopt that because it'll really annoy the heck out of their opponents. Kahakai left with an injury in game 2, hope it's not her knee. Too bad we can't trade Higgins and Mendoza for Fujita and Nakamura, lol.

Wondering why Nikki Taylor did not play at all, since Dave Shoji has been mentioning that she needs to get into match condition. How better to get into match condition then to play. Makes one wonder how well her right elbow really is. Is this something that we will be seeing throughout the Conference season, that is, seeing Nikki Taylor not playing in matches due to her elbow.
Now another concern Kahakai quite possibly having a patella injury, not good. This is starting to sound like the 1992 season all over again, with the injuries mounting. The Wahine are quite lucky that the BWC did not stick them with more Sunday matches, the Wahine can be thankful for that.

Koelsch reminds me a lot of Cheri Boyer- same height, same build, same style of setting.
