I liked that little documentary they had on before the match when the PAC12 all-star team went to China! I agree. Such an awesome experience for everyone involved. A great tradition.

well Washington sweeps, after a lethargic, error filled first set, the huskies got back to action.... Scambray played well, which bodes well to have more options against Wisconsin tomorrow. I wish she was just 2 inches taller, that way she could drive through the block at a stepper angler....that or develop a bit more power. Anywho, I'll say it again, if Washington does not serve well and hit well, Wisconsin will win. Washington can't win a defensive battle with Wisconsin...not even close. If Scambray was 2 inches taller she would be the next Sanja Tomasevic. She is a great all around player.

Attendance 1,352.
Not bad, I guess, for a Thursday 8p match against an unranked team.
Tomorrow, should be considerably better.

Why is the attendance so low? Or is that how most UW matches are? Attendance was surprisingly low tonight, but on TV it looks even lower because the part of the stands you can see on TV is the student section. And school hasn't started yet.

Maryland knee pads are making my eyes water. I liked it. Kneepads are usually just boring, but they had the flag of Maryland on theirs.

Huskies really struggled to get good balls to the hitters. Between the passing and the setting, the hitters saw about 10 good sets all night long. (And one of them was to nobody, because the hitter wasn't expecting it.)
Jade seemed to be the most effective setter tonight on anything to the middle or left, but she still looked really wild when setting behind her. Nothing seemed to go right all night long for either Bailey or Katy.
When the hitters got something to hit they did, but there were a lot of tips and rolls and such because they just didn't get the ball where they could hit it.
Overall, the team just seemed not quite in sync, not quite at full speed, and not quite like a team that can win in the PAC. But maybe it was just playing down to their opponents?

My guess is they got caught looking forward a bit and lost their concentration a bit. The other UW has been guilty of that as well at times this preseason.
I do hope more people show up tomorrow. It will make the atmosphere electric. The badgers actually do better when that happens, even on enemy territory, so it should be an enthralling match...that I will of course miss.
And I'm all for knee pads of pride!

Yes, I'd be concerned a bit about the setting. It does look like they are trying to be ultra fast to the pins and it's mostly low, flat, tight sets that are unhittable; hopefully they will get that figured out.

The knee-pads. Has anyone seen other teams with kneepads like this? School logos or some other design? I would have to think Under Armour is selling kneepads like this to other schools. Good marketing. Since it is the flag, every kid in Maryland schools may want to buy them. I see a trend starting.

I've been to UW but only for postseason matches so I was just curious as to the attendance for the match.

The knee-pads. snip I see a trend starting. I see they match the football uniforms. But seriously, Maryland has a cool flag. For one thing, it's not blue with some picture, like about 75% of them.

Late Thursday night, it's on TV (Comcast, anyway), and the opponent is weak. I stayed home and watched it, but will be there tonight.

As much as everyone is saying Washington was playing BLAH, I actually thought Maryland's defense was pretty good. Not saying aren't going to have a rough season (they are- no offensive weapons), but their floor defense was solid. They are better than year's past and moving in the right direction for BigTen play. Kudoes to Coach Aird and staff.
