Rose has pretty good ballet. He hasn't moved his team from 6 in any poll yet. He has : 1 Stanford 2 Washington 3 Texas 4 Wisconsin 5 Florida st 6 Penn state. If I wasn't so biased towards psu, that looks like a decent top 6. Plus he's also a big PAC fan apparently. 4 in the top 10, ranking Oregon higher than USC. He also ranked Loyola Marymount 14 which is right around where they are I think at this point of the season. My only gripe is that he still has San Diego at #24, and he has his own team at #6. General consensus is that Penn State is obviously higher than that indicates, but he's shown a knack for under ranking his own squad in the past.

Why is USC moving UP in the polls? all they have done the last two weeks is lose. Because everyone else in the bottom half of the Top 10 has done nothing but lose either? Not that I agree, but submitting a reasonable (based on results) ballot would require far more movement than voters are comfortable with (or care to spend enough time thinking about).

Has he ever ranked his team 1 at beginning of season?

Why is USC moving UP in the polls? all they have done the last two weeks is lose. My financial advisor always uses this line: Past Performance is No Guarantee of Future Results. It is like USC is an underperforming DOW stock and everyone is "onboard" because they expect the stock to go higher soon. Well, I'd be in that boat too, I think USC will eventually be a very good team, once they learn how to pass, set, block, Nwanebu gets healthy and the use her just on the RS, front row, and they stop running their offense through Gillis , but the poll shouldn't be about future prospects, it should be about current ability, and there is NOTHING in the last two weeks that says that there are only 8 teams better than USC right now.

You cast a ballot. You dance ballet. A new rule for voters.

Think it's his way of telling his team nothing is given to them. They want a top ranking they have to prove to him they deserve it. I also think rose is a coach that believes his team can always be better therefor he's never gonna rank them 1

I don't know if any of the top5 survives FSU's schedule but Stanford; their gritty play should have been rewarded with a 5. How Pablo still gives them a 16 is beyond me.

It's because Pablo treats 5 game matches more or less like a tie and 5 game home matches add even less to one's "number". FSU has 3 five game matches this year, all victories but that doesn't make much difference in Pablo.

In addition, they are 4-0 in 5 set matches. They could be just 6-5 and their points suggest something like an 8-3 or 9-2 team so far.

I saw PSU go five at home last year and it felt much more like a top prize fighter going the distance yet still dominating the fInal round leaving no doubt who the better team was, than it felt like a draw. How then does Pablo justify having USC 10 places higher in 6th, losses At home must somehow be better than draws?

As much as I'm not a PSU fan, Rose's voting tendencies suggest that "until you beat them, you're no better than them" philosophy, which definitely has shown to be a catalyst for improvement for his teams...essentially challenging them to prove him wrong.

As I have said in years past the poll is a joke. Some of the coaches don't take it seriously. Some coaches and if you look closely at each voter and their schedule or upcoming schedule, they put teams in there that they have played or will play even though they lost. The poll continues to be as political as it has always been...NO POLL where coaches with their agendas are the ones voting should be given any merit as to who is worthy of being a top 25 team. Coaches have too many "dogs in the fight" to vote without bias. The poll affects recruiting and some administrators put more importance in this poll than they should and let their head coaches know that. The only way you could get an unbiased poll is to have neutral 3rd parties vote who actually watch video and look at results. The only thing that publicizing the vote has done is let everyone know what I said above.

Pablo was designed as a "predictive" model. I think it's premised on the idea that 5 game matches suggest the two teams are quite even in terms of figuring out who might win the next time they play or how teams who play both might do. It's because Pablo treats 5 game matches more or less like a tie and 5 game home matches add even less to one's "number". FSU has 3 five game matches this year, all victories but that doesn't make much difference in Pablo. Thanks! Guess which voter? Week 2 - Purdue #7 Week 3 - Purdue #8 (after losing to WKU) Week 4 - Purdue #9 (after losing to SLU) 2 more losses to unranked teams and they'll be out of the Top 10! I think a several of the "big name" schools would not be in the top 25 if they had to rely on their non-conference performance to get into the poll like many of the "mid-major" schools or the schools without a name. I know Purdue is really good but if they didn't start with such a high preseason rank and have the reputation, would their schedule get them in the top 25? If we were talking about a school like Ohio, Western Kentucky, or App. State - would a 10-2 record with a win over San Diego and losses to two unranked teams get them into the top 25? We would all be asking who have they beaten to deserve to be in the top 25.
