You win and lose because of your outsides. It is simple as that. Abercrombie, although she hits D1 angles, does not have D1 arm strength. On the other side of the net v UCLA Reilly Bucechler does. The jump up works for some to the D1 level and not others. Bricio might start to get frustrated at some point. USCs setting is suspect. But, it is not how good you are, it is how good you are getting. Lets hope all improve by years end. 1) Abercrombie has more heat than Buechler. Buechler has the benefit of better setting with blockers camping out on Karsta. 2) The non-serving aspects of Bricio's game are highly overrated (well, maybe not backrow attacking, so everything besides serving and pipe hitting)

I'm still holding out hope that she finds her way back to her home state to finish out her collegiate career . . . Another Falyn? Hardly. Personal injuries and not having fun playing while being away so far away from family sometimes put things into focus for some athletes.

O.o That is really not good. No wonder she looks off. Hope she recovers quickly. Damn. I don't remember the exact play she injured herself but it was during a normal hit or block, she came down visibly hurting and she stayed on the court and kept playing for a few minutes! She probably needs to work on her nutrition, as do most athletes really. I remember the play. She just rotated to the back row and served as normal, then got set the D ball and got a kill but then ended up in tears but kept playing. I remember wondering what happened because it didn't look like anything bad occurred, just that she was crying and looked like she was in a lot of pain.

For the majority of the season Buechler was the OH1 and was struggling offensively while Strantzali was the OH2 and getting all the kills. Since last weekend, they switched it so Stranzali is OH1 and Buechler is OH2 and now Buechler has been performing better while Strantzali is sort of struggling.. Basically, whoever is up at the net with Karsta [where the block camps out on her] will be more productive in the offense. LOL

Interesting match tonight, ASU at USC.
ASU, coming off a tough 5-set loss at UA. USC needing a win to start to right the ship.
Before the season, both of these teams were seen by many as contenders to finish at or near the top. But now, one team is going to be 0-2 in the Pac.

Abercrombie has a very powerful left shoulder despite her thin frame. We just haven't seen it yet with limited playing time/mediocre setting. And I agree 100% on Bricio. She is a good all around player, has an incredible serve and attacks well out of the back row, but I don't see her ever being a truly top notch outside hitter. Too error prone and she is not an elite passer/defender.

Im going with UA tonight................................my Southern Cal tean was blasted by UCLA. Negative waves coming from the Galen Center......................felt it at the end of last season at Galen. Too much attitude, to much smugness, too much arrogance? Dont know but it is real and it isn't the players.

Ucla wins in 3 or 4
SC wins in 3
AZ schools are dangerous, but not on the road after a that emotional match with only 1 day rest.

Not sure I saw the negative waves for USC last season. If not for one slightly errant 5th set attack, USC would have advanced to the Final Four.

Yeah if Asia Kaczor had not missed a serve Southern Cal would have beaten Stanford and would have played for the National Championship.

Something isn't right at Southern Cal right now. Surfers can sense the water, people who are musical (think jazz players) can sense where things are going when they jam. I hope Southern Cal wins tonight but things aren't right.

Uh ... what? Didn't you know they already played last night? I thought it was tonight. I get season tickets but only get to see them when work permits. Who won? From the subject line of this thread and the subsequent posts before your question, did you really have ask? Maybe it was a case where hope sprang eternal no matter what the indications were otherwise.

We must have been on different planets.

I agree with this post the most, people are pressing the panic switch. Nwanebu hasn't found her rhythm since her injury, hopefully she gets it back. USC is still a legit top 20 team but without Nwanebu at full strength and the back court struggling they won't win against the really good teams. I still wouldn't want to face this USC team in the NCAA early rounds this could be a mess for a top seed come tournament time. Agreed. USC is struggling for a number of reasons, but Nwanebu is a big factor. She was a force late last season, but that injury is still an issue. USC could end up in the tournament, unseeded, and some top seed could face them in the 2nd round and get bounced. Nwanebu experienced a fracture in one of her vertebrae? Yikes! If that is true, it certainly explains the slow start. If playing isn't exacerbating the injury or impeding the healing process, she is obviously going to be a much better player than she is right now. I suspect that although backcourt issues will continue throughout the season that if Nwanebu continues to heal that they are going to be much better as the season progresses. It's difficult to predict so much doom and gloom based off of the fact that one of their two top hitters is coming back from a major injury and was very recently cleared to play. Give them time.
