This. She wasn't benched because she was short, it was because I can't name one skill she executes at an above-average level in the Big Ten Well, Bates did not take her place because of her outstanding play. Bates: .023 vs. Washington .077 vs Penn State You're not in practice every day. You've seen these two in action 1/10th of the amount of time Sheffield has.

I am sure Morales is frustrated at times when they are losing and she feels like she can help if she was given the opportunity but overall I think she is a player that will do whatever she needs to make a team successful. It is a long Big Ten Season, she will get other in game chances at showing her stuff in the front row.

I love Deme. I don't know what happened against PSU last night. They just fell apart. That had to have been frustrating for all of them.

Coaches don't want someone else telling them how to do their job. He needs to figure it out on his own. Better team chemistry last year with Morales. KABVB made some great points. Not sure what "better chemistry last year" you are referring to? Last year, Wisconsin finished 4th in the Big Ten with a 12-8 conference record. Against PSU in 3 matches, they went 1-9 in sets played. I think Coach Sheffield is looking for BETTER success and chemistry this year than last. I think Sheff is a very astute coach who gets the most out of his players, but judging Wisconsin almost solely on their NCAA run is still misguided. Ditto for Morales,...of whom I'm a big fan. It's been poured over before, but their run was the product of a fortuitous bracket, a nice win against Purdue, and a gutsy win over a sloppy, lethargic Texas team. Suddenly, they're in a finals with as little weight on their shoulders as someone with zip expectations should have against a team that had enormous expectations...and pressure playing a team they'd beaten twice already. 3-1 is about right under those circumstances. Having said all that, nobody should be surprised if Morales steps onto the court as an OH at some point in the season. Given the right circumstances, I'm pretty sure Coach would feel very comfortable doing that.

Dear Momma Morales,
Are you aware that you are able to edit your posts to include more info so that you don't look psychotic, responding to yourself thirty times in a row?
Also, you should have that period key checked. It seems to stick quite often!
Signed, A concerned fan

Deme's folks would in no way be "surprised not to see Deme in her usual position against PSU." Certainly Deme has told them what's been going on. Also, this was not the first match they attended where Deme was playing DS instead of OH. Nope, this is a random loon.

But Rainbowspouse and I have met the Moraleses a couple of times and we like them a lot, so I bristled at the suggestion that Mrs. M would take to a message board to rant like that. She and Mr. M strike me as "let our kid fight her own battles" parents. They're pretty cool.

Is Deme injured? Has she been given opportunities in match play to deliver? From a complete outsider, it does seem like a very deep demotion for a Badger who contributed big a year ago in favor of a youngster who is a bit unproven.

From a complete outsider, it does seem like a very deep demotion for a Badger who contributed big a year ago in favor of a youngster who is a bit unproven. To my knowledge, Deme is not injured. Deme and Bates shared time at OH2 in the first two tournaments of the year. By the end of tournament 2, Bates was starting at OH2 and playing there all match, and Deme was DSing. So yes, I'd say that she has "been given opportunities in match play to deliver." But as many people on here constantly reiterate, you do not earn PT in match play, you earn it in practice. I also kind of take umbridge at the characterization of moving a player from OH to DS as a demotion, especially when that player is listed on the roster as an OH/DS. It's not like Deme's warming the bench.* She's contributing to the team. She's a leader. Her impact is felt. Sheesh. *And even benchwarmers contribute to the team in practice.

Ok, let's turn this around. Deme is OH. Now, who is the DS?
Did it occur to you that looking at the situation as a whole, her skills relative to the rest of the personnel will help the team more in the backrow?
Let's say she is back at DS, but someone, unnamed, is now the DS and shanks 50% of her digs, and serve receives. Is that helpful?

If she starts as an OH, she just stays in the game and plays that spot in the back-row.
