SAN BRUNO, Calif. - The West Coast Conference has named its Volleyball Player of the Week for November 24, 2014.
Congratulations to Gillian Howard of Pacific!
WEST COAST CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - GILLIAN HOWARD, SR., MB - PACIFIC
Senior middle blocker Gillian Howard has been the Tigers' best player for over a month and was the catalyst to Pacific's pair of big wins on the road this weekend.
Against Pepperdine, Gillian continued her solid efforts in the middle as she came up with 10 kills on .421 hitting while leading the team in blocking with six. Two days later, the senior was nearly perfect in the match, posting a season-best 18 kills on .533 attacking to go along with nine blocks. Howard did not make her first hitting error until the fourth set and on her 22nd attack of the day. Howard recorded six kills on eight swings with no errors in the first and third sets. Her nine blocks led Pacific to 18 total blocks, the most for the team this season and the most since the 2007 campaign.
For the weekend, Gillian posted 28 kills on .490 attacking as she averaged 3.11 kills per set. She averaged 1.67 blocks per set as well as she tallied 15 total blocks for the weekend to average 4.06 points per set.
Also Nominated: Alexa Gray, BYU

Pacific is creeping up in RPI, but I just don't see them sneaking in, not enough sizzle to OOC and no OOC big wins.Other four top five have a good shot.

Lovely RPI, They beat 2 teams with higher RPI, in their own conference that supposedly will get a shot before them. I know Pacific is behind LMU and Santa Clara, OOC okay, but I think they should be in before both of those teams, they beat LMU not once but TWICE and Santa Clara 1 out of 2, but the 1 was the most recent match when you are supposed to be getting better as the season progresses, not an expert so just my .02, HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE

Pacific has 4 Top 50 wins and no losses outside the Top 50. As someone who values not %*$#ting the bed, I think that's a compelling reason for them to be in. However, the Committee is much more forgiving of bad losses than I.

I think the interesting thing will be the comparison between the WCC muddle (Pacific, San Diego, Santa Clara), Northridge, & the Big 10 muddle (Minnesota, Mich State, Purdue) & SMU
LMU is in, too hard to ignore that they have very good wins

San Diego has a better RPI than Santa Clara and Pacific, presumably on the basis of having lost to 5 quality OOC opponents, which, frankly, anyone can do. They did beat BYU at home, and not much else against top teams. However, it seems like they are "in" over Santa Clara and Pacific.

LMU and CSUN are in.

It looks like trojansc was on the money with his Bracketology. BYU not seeded, playing Seton Hall at Arizona. LMU vs Michigan State at Stanford. Santa Clara vs Oregon in Eugene. San Diego vs Long Beach State at UCLA. And a very talented Pacific team left just outside the bubble. So 4 NCAA bids for the WCC this year.
