Arizona down 2 sets. Coach Rubio nailed the analysis during the break interview. He's been doing a great job of making adjustments but team is not executing. OH aren't producing, middles... what middles... and MK isn't doing much. No consistency from RL & imo, Snuka is about the only bright spot.

All I can say, until I see the final stats, is the team looked to me to be not much more than a 2nd division club. They looked ORDINARY, and not a team @14-1. I personally thought virtually every aspect of their play was very sub-par - hitting bad, serving bad, receipt of serves bad, passing bad, setting could have been much better, basically no front row defense, and virtually no blocking, which allowed Colo, time and time again, to hit at will, to multiple areas of open court. Where did our team go today - certainly not ready to play a pumped up Colorado team. Very depressing. Will follow with stats when available, and will see if they bare out my comments above. Not saying these things to offend our fans, coaches or team (am sure squad is fully aware of these shortcomings as well), but I try to observe and report objectively...it was not a good day for Arizona VB. Disappointing, AND unexpected.

Just going to throw this info out there for the readers, and digest & interpret as you wish...
A real tough loss against Colorado today - 25-22, 25-21, 25-23. Coach Rubio, after the match - "I felt like we were not prepared to play against a good (Colorado) opponent".
Stats - some of the more determining factors: Hitting %s - COLORADO, set by set; .243, .235, .268, total match, .250. ARIZONA, .088, .136, .214, total match, .150. TOTAL KILLS - COLORADO, 45Ks, & 17 attack errors. ARIZONA, 35Ks, & 20 attack errors. COLORADO had 57 digs, ARIZONA had 44.
Player of the match had to be Colorado's Alexis Austin, with 15 kills AND a hitting percentage of .583.
Arizona plays Cal on Wednesday & #1 Stanford Friday - a real short week for prep. Have just a hunch that practices on the 3 off days (2 before Cal & 1 before Stanford) will be tough ones. After seeing how this club CAN play, I am looking for the Cats to bounce back against Cal with a win, and maybe, as we have done when Stanford was a #1 before, surprise the heck out of them. We have now gotten the bad stuff out of our system, and I look forward to a whole lot more good with this bunch. BEARDOWN, and GO CATS!

Something I should have added, and was certainly neglect for not, before now (wallowing way too much in my misery of the loss) - Colorado played a stellar match, and was obviously ready for the Wildcat's Sunday visit. While the Cats certainly didn't play their best, Colorado's play obviously influenced that. Welcome to our 2 recent super additions to one of the top 2 VB conferences in the country - nice to have Colorado and Utah with us.

arizonafan is certainly a gracious addition to volleytalk. It is nice to have a big contributor from another Pac 12 school. Cal is in an adjustment period, and will be hurt more by the loss of practice and a travel day. Competition in the conference is close enough that a lot of teams will have so-so weeks; a good effort, followed by, eh, not so good, or vice versa.

Wish I could be there for BOTH of this week's matchups, but as an Illinois resident now, 1700 miles is a bit of a stretch. BUT, will be either in front of the TV (IF we are on PAC 12, regular) or the computer, if only PAC Arizona available. As an aside, will not soon forget the Stanford/AZ matches (both of them) in 2005. Stanford came into Tucson as #3, and we clipped them 3-2. I was so emotionally pumped after that match, I know I got a little teary eyed. When we later went to California that same year, to play them again, they were #4, and we beat them 3-2 again. While we have had little success against them in the past several years, I think 2014 would be a great year to bring back that 2005 Tucson feeling (MY greatest VB high ever) again, and take both of these matches this week. GO CATS!

Anyone have any insight re: the Cal Bears (players, injuries etc)? (arizonafan... not to be confused with the Chicago Bears) Plus does anyone have info on future Cats recruits?

Anyone have any insight re: the Cal Bears (players, injuries etc)? Good enough to be dangerous, not good enough to be favored. Like half the PAC-12.

Need some assistance here - new poster, and haven't been able to figure out how to drag a post that I'd want to react to, so have been just addressing MY reaction to the poster I'm trying to reply to. Any help will be appreciated - it's hell when you get into mid-70s, and you see the electronic era passing you by (bring granddaughter in to hook up ANYTHING I get that electronic - it's embarrassing)
