I would be pleasantly surprised by a Husky sweep, but the Cal match highlighted that the UW can go through some rough patches and lose sets they shouldn't lose.

Washington & USC have had a lot of epic matches. Kaczor's 44 kills in 2007 for USC 3-2 win In 2010 UW handed SC its first loss with a 3-2 win in Seattle Then USC returned the favor winning 3-2 at Galen in 2010 via Jupiter & Fonoi .. 2012 USC won 3-2 on its home court via Bricio 2013 UW took three wins, 3-1 wins in seattle & galen reg season, and then a 3-2 win in the NCAA's after facing two match points.
Hopefully its a good game!

Hopefully its a good game! Yes, as fans, don't we always want both teams to play up to their best?

At home, I like the Dawg Pack to sweep. USC is just a mess, and while U-Dub's back row D could use an upgrade, it still puts USC's to shame. The wildcard is Bricio's serving which could snag a set for the Trojans.

Hopefully its a good game! Yes, as fans, don't we always want both teams to play up to their best? Not always. If this was the NCAA's I'd like USC to sweep UW like PSU did in the NCAA's, an ugly match. I just want USC to play well. If they do, it will be a good game. If not, it'll be ugly. I can see UW have an off game and still win.

I think UW still has to show up and play well to win this match. Even though USC is going through rough times, it can be matches like this that awakens teams. UW has experienced close calls this year and this could be another if they aren't prepared. But I believe JMac will have the ladies ready and the Dawgs (hopefully) prevail.

Anyone expect s noanything less than a sweep? Sure. You're assuming USC isn't improving. Nwanebu is the key - she has yet to play up to her ability this season. Bricio is a wild card - her serve is going to challenge UW in serve-receive. The light is eventually going to come on for Gillis and Abercrombie, just hopefully not in Seattle. It's a Wednesday night match, so close to 4,300 Husky fans probably won't be showing up like last year (the Wed. match attendance against UCLA was just over 1,700). I do think that UW has too many weapons for USC. As long as UW's serve and pass game holds up reasonably well, they should win.

I think the biggest key will be the block and the middles for washington. If they get those going, usc doesn't stand a chance IMO

I think the key for Washington is the serving and the setting. The block depends on getting tough serving, and the hitting depends on the setting. (I could have said the passing, too, but this year it has seemed like the setting is a problem almost independently of the passing.)

It's true that serving is a key, and so is setting, but if there is ONE thing that wahsington is clearly better at than usc is running their middles. We have seen sybeldon take over matches. Passing isn't an issue, because even with Washington struggles, they're better than usc. I just hope UW pulls out the win. Scambray and Vansant are just fun to watch.

But you have to get the ball to the middles before they can hit it!

But you have to get the ball to the middles before they can hit it! and UW hasn't really struggled all that much from the matches I've seen. It could be better, but compared to usc, their fine.

Setting the middles depends on good passing. I do think that Sybeldon will be key, both blocking and hitting. If both middles get going, it'll probably be light's out. While they aren't one-to-one coefficients, good passing generally leads to better setting. Granted that Tanner can pull off a great set on a bad pass one play and a bad set on a good pass the next play. Hopefully her play will take a step up this week. Beals has been more consistent, it seems to me.
