....has got to go as an announcer. Boring. No excitement. Way to read the stats Al. Great coach though....

Completely disagree. He has a great mind and calls it like he sees it.
He is all over USC's moon ball offense and it's setting choices right now.

He calls it like he sees it, but the way he sees it, every player's name is misspelled. Kristy Vansant, Ebony Nwaneby, Leanne Sybeldon...

Like him. Yeah, he can sound boring, but he's not a puker who thinks every play is a bottom of the ninth two out grand slam homer. He talks like a human being and offers some interesting insight

Absolutely, he picks up stuff that the usual volleyball announcer could never see. When you coach the game at a high level you develop an understanding of technique on a plane far above the current crop of cookie cutter announcers/analysts. For example, he picked up on Crissy Jones' line approach on the RS before she hit line.

I like him and thought he actually got a little more excited and interesting to listen too as the match wore on. Perhaps a function of them workingfrom a studio?

Love him!!! He's so refreshing to listen to. He may state the obvious at times but I appreciate him.

I like him a lot actually. Shoots straight from the hip, sounds critical of some players at times, and provides some decent color commentary.

Al Scates is not smoothest TV personality. But, listening to him is like listening to the village's wise, old elder. If you listen closely, you will learn a lot.

He also called it perfectly with Nwanebu. She's barely getting off the ground, which is a huge change from last year and this summer with the national team.

Yes, they should bring back Kelli Tennant! Although, I did see her hosting SportsNation on ESPN so I guess she won't be doing PAC-12 Network volleyball anymore.

I love his post-match interviews. Mostly because they're not interviews at all but mostly him talking at the players. They get this awkward look on their faces trying to figure out what question they're supposed to answer (which he usually hasn't asked).
But I like him a lot. He's very entertaining, is knowledgeable about the game, and it's always interesting to hear his perspective on what's happening.

I like him, his inflections remind me of Floyd the Barber from the Andy Griffith show.

Can you imagine a broadcast with Sunderland, Barnett, and Scates? That is what a volleyball broadcast team should be.
Unfortunately, I'm sure that ESPN will make us suffer through Nell Fortner again.
