Who are the hopeful, yet disillusioned Hawkeye fans?

Actually, against IL Iowa looked substantially better than I remembered. It's true that they rode a long series of errors by McMahon, whom Viliunas seemed determined to set no matter what, but they played their part. They have some hitters who, if they get confident and get service, can pose real problems. If IL had not gone on run right at the end of set 5 they would have lost that match
Still, they don't look a complete package yet. Their block left a little to be desired for instance, and passing and defense was inconsistent. I expect UW will win but I also expect Iowa will compete. Seems the new coach has them improving.

Bond said in the post-NW interview that this was the first time they had a balanced offense, and he believes that's what allowed them to win. It makes a lot of sense. The same thing. Applies to Wisconsin: they play their best matches when they have a balanced offense.
I have seen scrappy, aggressive play out of Iowa in the past two matches. They are starting to believe.
I think Wisconsin takes this one by serving Iowa out of system. We'll eliminate all options but Brobst and just gang up on her. But I don't expect Iowa to go down without a fight.

At this point, I think I am going to have to miss this one, which isn't a happy making thing.

I missed two in a row at home but now order is restored and I should be at the rest of the home matches.
The last several dig pink matches haven't gone so well, IIRC. I can't remember all of the outcomes, but I do remember bad play.
It will be strange seeing Simpson likely wearing some version of yellow and black. I wonder if she shows the team her AA picture for inspiration?
I agree with BB that Iowa had some scrappy stretches in the Illinois match (although admittedly I turned it off late into the 2nd set).
What has happened to NW? They looked like a top 30 team there for a while.

I watched NW against OSU. This long trip against tough opposition has been tough. Tashima is getting pulled for the more experienced setter, Ryan. Seems there is a little confidence problem there. They appear pretty streaky in the matches I have watched too. Defense and blocking was a problem. They could't stop opposing teams from long runs.
This young player for Iowa...Alm..she was pretty impressive against Illinois in stretches. Big girl. Somebody to watch for.

I don't think our team will have the same struggle Illinois did for that very reason. We do not have a setter that is focused in on making one player (the wrong player) the back bone of the offense. Iowa has a few that can score efficiently so they can't be overlooked but I think we will handle them just fine

Okay, I realized that I want to watch this team play as many times as I can, so the heck with it, I am going tonight.

I hope Wisconsin is focused tonight and takes care of business. Has anyone else noticed that the action shot on the volleyball cups at the Field House is probably against Iowa in 2009, when the Badgers lost? Kind of ironic.

I spy someone wearing an old Simpson jersey. Inspired.
