Crap. While I was writing my own rejoinder, Ruffda beat me to it. Oh, well. Great minds think alike. As a Badger fan with a team with a 15 year good history followed by a 5 year bad history, you aren't going to get any schaudefreude from me. (Unless one of you had your own snarky comments for Badgers during that time).

(You just had to make me log on again!) How about not steady; jittery season; hot cold; up and down? Have you ever been close to being good and just missing? That's the way this Husker team has been! I think the non conference season took a lot out of them! GO HUSKERS

Not those kinds of shakes. I still remember when Cook benched Tara Mueller and Kayla Banwarth after they were cited by the Lincoln PD for having their snoots in the beer.

...always remember folks...Minnesota is an "elite" program. (does elite include top 50?) What is with you, RR? If memory serves, this is the second or third time you have made the same snarky remark. If memory also serves, Minn has been in three final fours since 2003, made it to the regionals the last five years, and hasn't missed a tournament bid in ages. Few programs--not none, but few--have been as consistently successful as the Gophers over the last 15 years. "Elite" is just a word, with no fixed definition. It is perfectly reasonable for people to think of such a sustained performance as "elite," even if you aren't so inclined. If you want to define it as winning it all, or successful at recruiting nationally like Stanford and Texas, or some other standard that Minn. doesn't meet, go ahead, Noah Webster. But your sneering is pointless. There seems to be little question that the 2014 team is considerably weaker than its teams in the recent past. It isn't looking good for a continuation of the five year regional streak. Heck, it's not looking all that good for the continuation of the who knows how many straight years of tournament play. That's what sometimes happens when you graduate a first team all-american and a second teamer. 2007, the year following the graduation of two other players who had been all-americans at some point in their Gopher careers, was also a down year. But people wouldn't be talking so much about a "top 50 team," but for the fact that the program has been consistently in the conversation, for so many years, about teams that are likely to be seeded, come tournament time. Put another way, if Minn wasn't an elite program, its current less than elite level of play would pass unnoticed in the volleyball world. VERY well-put.

I guess I am not overly familiar with this year's Nebraska program. Assuming that Minnesota (particularly Santana and Nora) come out healthy and fully engaged, does anyone think we might have a chance at taking this match? I feel like the stars would have to align just perfectly. We need both Rosado and Goehner in the back row as much as possible. I guess I don't care who plays on the RS, just so we can get some nice sets to them (and our middles). We need to not be afraid to try Handley again if Schau's sets become shifty. Wilhite absolutely needs to be fired up. I am optimistic that if all of these things happen, MN just *might* have a fighting chance. Thoughts?
Nebraska wins in 3 not much else to discuss. Minnesota will have their hands full with Iowa.
Even though clearly we dislike each other, I have to agree with your statement. Not too much to say regarding tomorrow's match. Nebraska in 3.

I guess Dignittney and I disagree, probably a bunch of others too, I feel they have good chance at the upset. This is the kind of match that a team can set aside what is going on and come together. They need to get one back if they want to finish 11-9, the other M's are starting to roll, the Gopher's M needs to too.

The fact that you guys continue to defend this program as a top program in the D1 volleyball says it all. You love your Gophers and I can respect that. I'll continue to call out anyone that says it's a top program because it is not. Hey, I live right here in the TC's and would love to see them turn things around but.....You guys are like Paul Allen on KFAN. Preseason the Vikings are always going to finish 11-5 and look where they end up. That's what you call a Homer. Hope the Goph's can take a set off of an "elite" program tonight...

Both these teams are flaky, so I wouldn't be surprised by ANY result

Minnesota has been a top 15 program year in and year out for over a decade. They went to three final 4s in that time. Choose a different word. I don't care. Regardless, this season would not be such a big deal had the previous decade not occurred.
Mike Hebert is no longer living in Minneapolis and coaching at Minnesota. Things have changed dramatically.

I upset the homefans with that word earlier this season. I think a far better word to describe them is "successful." Where do the Gophers rank over the last fifteen years in recruiting? That may say something about how high their perceived level of success may be. Having been a Vikes fan since before the Miami Superbowl with family tickets on wooden end zone bleachers, and then plastic seats in a cheap stadium, I would not declare them an "elite" team based on all the great players, and NFC championship (final4) apperiences.

Again, you need to define elite. To me, it's a perfectly appropriate term for a program that has had more success than AT LEAST 95% of the other DI schools.
But, like I said, if you're talking about the top .5%, then they are not. They are not on a level with PSU, Stanford, Texas, Nebraska.
And you also have to impose a timeframe on the discussion. 5 years? 10 years? 15? 20? THIS year?
No one ever posted anything that claimed Minnesota was on a level with those teams. Minnesota fans on this board are pretty humble, if you ask me.

Both these teams are flaky, so I wouldn't be surprised by ANY result Especially Nebraska. The problem I see for Minnesota is that while they have the talent/ability to win a game like this, they have not been able to consistently play up to their collective abilities. Too many girls seem to disappear for sets at time, and no one girl is so good that she can carry the team by herself against top competition.

One of the "downsides" of having All-Americans graduate,,,as MN did in Dixon/Whitman,,is replacing them. Missouri is experiencing the same thing this year as well. Teams win matches, though players makes plays.
