#4 FLORIDA STATE 19-0 (7-0) @ PITT (6-1 in the ACC).. this match can be viewed for a premium price.. link on the Pitt website. Go to Schedule and click on link..not sure of the cost
Will be a Big match for both teams. FSU has most to lose if they walk out of this match with a loss.
Pitt's only loss is to UNC (they took them to 5 sets) lucky for Pitt-they only play top teams in ACC one time.. left on their schedule: home vs. Louisville (Sunday) and @ Louisville in Nov. They play @ Duke and host Miami @ home
FSU still has to play @ Duke- @ UNC & Miami @ home FSU swept UNC (at home) in Sep.. beat Louisville in Louisville and beat Miami in Miami
Look for strong hitting and defense from both teams. will also be a battle in the back row as liberos' Clasen and Mosher are among top in ACC in DPS
I predict FSU will take this 3-1

I think this is a pretty important match for Pittsburgh. Their RPI schedule has left them with such a small margin of error for making the tournament - they need to win most of their remaining matches. A loss doesn't kill them by any means, but I think a win would be huge for the program.
Not saying a loss wouldn't hurt Florida State, but looks like the key match for the title will be against UNC. Beat UNC and they will not care as much about a loss to Pitt.
I am pretty interested in how this match goes.

Pitt is not a bad team but FSU is a class above. Pitt's setter is not very good and their achilles. FSU in 3 unless they play a few from bench...

Pitt's only loss is to UNC Pitt lost to Colorado as well you're correct-- I was referring to their only loss within the ACC....how did they play vs. Colorado? Their pre conference schedule looked pretty weak to me... except for Colorado..not sure about the other teams they played..

I should have said setters and are... my bad

FSU is going to find that Thump you game that they had against UTAM! I don't think they have anything to lose, what they are doing is magical, and they will remain in position for a top seed regardless. GO NOLES!

I'll say Pitt in 5. I think FSU is overrated, and I'm not convinced they're better than UNC.

Zitzke leads the four setters (Zitzke, Jacobson, Wickstrom, Luke) in assists per set, digs per set, least ball handling errors and aces. Luke is last in all four categories. Pitt is better in any measurable setting stats despite having less talented hitters. I understand that FSU has playedmuch tougher team and their blocking skews these stats, and I would probably select Wickstrom first for my team, but that does not make Zitzke and Jacobson bad setters. Setting is a wash in this game and the big difference difference that FSU would have to utilize to sweep is blocking. This FSU team is getting way to much credit right now based on how they've been playing recently and they are certainly not "a class above" the rest of the ACC. Taken to five @ the 5th and 6th best teams in conference, this FSU team will have to regain that early season magic if they're gonna beat Pitt, UNC and Duke away. Wal

It doesn't matter, if you cut a W in half there remains two V's that stand for victory! Winning by 8 total points at home is an indication that you could lose away. UNC has a higher Pablo rating (8 as opposed to 11) and FSU's early season wins over Nebraska, Iowa State, Marquette and American looked a lot better then than now. Walch and Horton's hitting percentages continue to drop against mediocre ACC competition. They're having a great season, but that could be more an indication that they've gotten very lucky in five-setters than that they're the better team. Away games at UNC and Duke will be thetoughest games they've had all season (Nebraska was a bigger name win, but they have a ton of home losses already) and until they prove themselves I'm not ready to declare FSU the best in the ACC.

Wal I like Wickstrom and not a fan of Luke! If FSU doesn't pull one of its Jekyll & Hyde routines (they ususally pull one or two per season ), they will win in 3 easy. Lets just agree to disagree...

Just looked up ACC Stats for comparison within the Conference Only
FSU and PITT are so close:
Assists/set (#2 Pitt @ 13.45/set and #4 FSU @ 13.20/set) Digs/Set (#4 FSU @ 15.36/set and #5 Pitt @ 15.14/set) KIlls/Set (#2 Pitt @ 14.23/set and #4 FSU @ 14.08/set)
BUT...
Advantage for FSU when it comes to Blocking:
Blocks/set (#1 FSU @ 3.20/set and #7 Pitt @ 2.20/set)
Looking within the ACC only stats halfway through the schedule gives me a better comparison within the conference...looks like FSU will win this on Blocking? HOPE SO !!!
GO NOLES !!!
