As mentioned a decade ago....Berea College (KY) DIII finally beginning the process - at least I think they are.... Berea College’s Department of Athletics has an anticipated opening for the position of head volleyball coach. Most likely this position will be a full-time position with additional duties that could include: administrative duties, compliance, facility management, sports information and/or additional coaching duties depending on the strengths of the candidate. The successful candidate will have some combination of volleyball playing and/or coaching experience, preferably at the collegiate level. Berea College is in its first year of NCAA Division III provisional membership and is also a member of the USCAA. Berea College achieved national distinction as the first coeducational and interracial college in the South. With an emphasis on service to the people of Appalachia and beyond, Berea enrolls 1,600 students from 40 states and 60 countries. The College has a longstanding commitment to interracial education; here, people of different races seek to learn from and about each other, while also living together. Berea is among the most racially diverse private liberal arts colleges in the United States. Berea College is an Equal Opportunity Employer that recruits and hires qualified candidates without regard to race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, age, national origin, ancestry, citizenship, disability, or veteran status. If interested in the this anticipated opening, please email Director of Athletics Mark Cartmill at mark_cartmill@berea.edu It's been awhile since anything was said about this. The coach is still listed online so is this a real opening?

New coaches (plural)--that's interesting. The website lists Foeman and now also two assistant coaches, a graduate assistant, and a student assistant. In past years this job has always been just a head coach and a graduate assistant (with the occasional volunteer assistant). Does this represent a new level of financial commitment from the administration to help this team compete in the GLIAC? Pretty sure only one of them is being paid....... and two of theprevious asst are trying to get out.

Who actually does the voting for this award? Also, does anyone else think there's no need for someone to be given this award more than once?

I don't think there is a vote. I think you nominate someone, share some warm fuzzy stories, and bam cursed, I mean awarded. You have to be a member of AVCA.

A more arbitrary "award" I can't think of.

A more arbitrary "award" I can't think of. It's silly. Not that those aren't wonderful people or coaches, but there doesnt appear to be any criteria, and how would you measure them anyway?
