Huskers Visit Big Ten Newcomers Rutgers and MarylandHuskers up 2-0 right now at the break. -23, -21. Both teams seem to be blocking well tonight. Rutgers' middle, Matthews, hitting .636 on 11 swings. K Rolfzen has 16 kills already. Fien and Kiel got the start over Ostrander and Hall. Larson replaced Haggerty for set 2. Pretty competitive match. Rutgers hanging tough for sure.

Interesting little tidbit from the announcer:
Rutgers leads all-time series vs. Nebraska, 1-0, winning 2-0 in 1978. Rutgers is the only B1G team Nebraska has never beat... 21-17 Huskers looking to change that very soon...

And it's a Husker sweep! Huskers take set 3, 25-18.
It looked/sounded like the majority in attendance were Husker fans..?? In NJ? Really? Wow! GBR!

Looking at the Box Score it looks like Rutgers middles were 20-2-41 vs Nebraska and Haggerty only played 1 set. Did she get pulled or was Rutgers successful in the middle because Haggerty was out?

Rutgers middles, well Cloyd, lit up Nebraska's left sides on the slide. Haggerty was replaced by Kira Larson after Game 1.
Pollmiller had another bad night. This is as mediocre a Nebraska team as I've seen. Their middles really just aren't very good.

I disagree that the middles for Nebraska aren't very good. I think if Lauren Cook was running this team this year, they'd be a top 5 program this year and leading the big 10. I also think Lauren Cook would have Haggerty as an elite middle with her attacking. Pollmiller's setting is unpredictable and all over the map and the middles and RS seem to be watching for where the ball is going before they get their strong approach even started. I don't see any trust going on for the middle to beat any blocks. I feel Amber has the same issue on the RS, however, she has her own hitting error issues as well.
This is going to be a tough season for NE. I hope Hunter hits her practice hard this red shirt season and really works on growth. We're going to need her.

Alexa was a setter at Lee's Summit; why not give her a shot? A little competition may make Mary better!

I don't think Haggerty is an elite middle, no matter who's setting. Setting is Nebraska's weakness this year, but elite players make plays from average sets. I don't see that from Haggerty. She can be too picky with sets- like if it's not perfect, she'll just pepper it over, allowing teams to make easy passes. Haggerty either needs perfect timing, or a nice hole in the block to terminate reliably. Don't know what you mean by Pollmiller being "unpredictable and all over the map". One of the reasons Pollmiller struggles is because she IS predictable. Shoot left, shoot left, shoot left. Her sets are OK, IMO. Good enough for an elite player to get kills off of, like she proved last year.

GO HUSKERS I'd be curious to see how she'd perform as setter, and how she'd mesh with the team... It just doesn't seem to be up Cook's sleeve though... Probably has something to do with not training as a setter, # of reps, practice time, etc. Also Pollmiller's biggest strength is blocking, and Etheridge at 5'7" would probably be a downgrade.

I think the plan is to go with Justine as setter if Mary were to get injured...? Hunter will keep her redshirt regardless though.

Your original post on the topic of Alexa setting didn't mention anything about Mary getting injured. This led me to believe you wanted to replace Mary with Alexa for performance-related reasons. That's what I thought was nutty.
