Maybe the 6-2 is coming back. I have my doubts about a 6-2. Powell is a great foundation for the team going forward and Cook indicated that one reason for bringing in Mikkelsen was to add depth to the setter position: "We knew that we had a need for some depth at the setter position, and we had been looking for a couple years for the right player to fill that role. Finally, after a lot of searching we found the kid that we think fits that role." If Bogomolova is on scholarship, Mikkelsen won't be, at least for 2019. Summers is getting Julye's scholarship. Mikkelsen, however, has said she accepted a "scholarship" offer. One way that could work is if she will be delaying enrollment ("greyshirting"), which would explain the delayed announcement. With three scholarships available for 2019 (with Bajema, McPherson, and Niece graduating), two would go to Endsley and Mikkelsen, with one more left to give (for a Libero?). That would let Mikkelsen apprentice under Powell for two seasons, with a chance to start her last two seasons. [Edit: Or she greyshirts and redshirts, with a chance to start her last three seasons.]

One other point worth mentioning. In my recap of this season in the recent Oregon match thread, I mused that it would be great if the Huskies could somehow come up with a skilled libero/DS next season to shore up their serve receive, passing, and back row defense. Well, I had forgotten that the Huskies actually have a verbal commitment from Sianna Houghton, a 5' 10" libero/DS from Northern California for next season. I'm assuming Houghton will be a walk-on. It's possible Houghton could be an important part of the team next year. Her Instagram page says "University of Washington volleyball".

The Huskies just got a verbal commitment from Audra Wilmes, an OH from NPJ-18 Forefront (the same team as Sophie Summers) and West Linn High School in Oregon. She was a sophomore last Fall, which makes her a 2021.

AY, any thoughts on Wilmes? I couldn't find any video of her. Hopefully, like her sister, she'll "fill out" some before she arrives. Hers is the last scholarship on the table until 2022 (unless Houghton or Bays walk on) - so, it won't be going for a libero, as was your wish. Unless, Wilmes is that libero (at 6'0", with shoes off)...

Unless, Wilmes is that libero (at 6'0", with shoes off)... No, I didn't watch her. I watched some of that club team during triple crown but I was focusing on Summers. In general the match I watched their first contact was pretty spotty. I'll keep an eye out for this team at upcoming tournaments if they get on show courts. The fact that she is playing on an 18's team is good in the fact that we can see how terminal she can be playing a few levels up. Re libero, Bays is good, anyone can watch the Triple Crown 16's gold medal match and see her play. I'm pretty sure Houghton is a walk on. I think UW has two more scholarships to hand out between now and 2022. I'm still fingers crossed for a libero transfer through 2022, and we need another middle for the 2021 class. Still plenty of good recruits left out there for 2021.

Plenty of videos to catch Wilmes and Summers. Summers is struggling through injury apparently, kinda shows in her movement. Hopefully she gets a good rest after nationals before heading to campus. Too much depth on the husky squad next year for Summers not to redshirt and preserve her eligibility. Re Wilmes, dunno how wow I've been with the 18's level of play this year, but she can hold her own playing up 2 age groups. Nice length about her on her attack. Doesn't take a ton of passing duties, but she also doesn't get subbed out often like her OH counterpart- Taylor Williams (OH, Oregon, 2019 Top 25 Senior Ace). Wilmes can generally score at this level. Not sure how she stacks up against the rest of the pin attackers in the 2021 class (I remember seeing some pretty darn good 15's OH's last year) but if she can add some MPH to her arm in the next year, she could do well in the Pac-12.
Wilmes- #1, Summers- #22
