This. Sheff bringing in a transfer setter even though Hannah Juley is coming in is a clear indication that he wants to redshirt Hannah and does not want to be in a position where he has to sacrifice her redshirt if LC is sick or injured. So it is a needed move for practice, the what ifs, and the future team but really doesn't help the starting team win now. Right? Takes a scholarship up for 3 years too, I would suspect. I would argue that having strong backups in all positions absolutely helps the starting team win now. It makes the scout team strong, which gives the starters more challenges in practice, which will make them better. C'mon, guys, we had the same argument when EJ transferred in. Let's not do this again. I'm excited to have her. I'm sure that the Badgers will announce Jordan officially in due time, and Punzel will run a piece. Jordan will be able to tell her story soon enough.

Now you just took more reps away from her and your new backup In addition. You could have easily had a guy volunteer asst. Set the 2nd side. If in an emergency you could then bring the redshirt in for Carlini or a 3rd setter who could get the team through a week or two if they needed. Having 3 kids on setter scholarships for 2 years straight is eye raising.

Having 3 kids on setter scholarships for 2 years straight is eye raising. LOL. I mean, it's maybe a little less common than having two, but really? eye raising? Seems a bit dramatic.

We do not have a guy volunteer assistant. Our VAC is Annemarie Hickey, our former libero. Also, you are assuming Robbins will take a schollie, based on... what, exactly? We think EJ was a walk on. UCLA followers say Robbins was a walk on at UCLA. Those of us keeping track of scholarship math for the Badgers don't see how there is a scholarship free for Robbins. So if Robbins is not on scholarship, do you still oppose this transfer so vehemently?

However, I find it hard to believe that a kid would transfer in that position without a schollie dangling though.

California residential tuition at a UC school is significantly less, I would guess, than out of state tuition at a school very very far away from Rancho Santa Fe. maybe not.

Maybe she just loves beer and cheese curds. A girl can only have so many acai bowls before she goes crazy.

If she's from Rancho Santa Fe, there's a high probability that tuition cost isn't an issue. I would be very surprised if a walk-on backup setter who hasn't played in nearly two years would be getting a scholarship from a program like Wisconsin, but I'm just speculating.

You're correct. Perhaps the program helped hook her up with academic or other aid. But I do not believe that we have an available athletic scholarship.

Well is she loves volleyball and wants a slim chance to play at a top program would she stay at UCLA and be 1 of 4 setters as a walk on or go to Wisconsin and be the back up and know she might get in occasionally in mop up duty?

I'm positive that cost of tuition is not an issue for Robbins.
Rancho Santa Fe is a town of 3,000 people and the median household net worth is $1.3M. It ranks #3 in the nation in 'highest income places with at least 1,000 households.' Her father is a very successful individual. (He's also a great golfer. He won a $150,000 car by making a hole-in-one at the country club where he's a member - which is telling maybe a little of the kind of success he's had if he's the member of a country club that gives away Maseratis.)
