This is for true freshman so I did not include red-shirt freshman. I listed top 5 nationally well known players plus other if you feel some player is deserving and not listed. Below are stats to date (11/21/14)

Why did you bother to include Washington when it is clear she won't have enough sets to qualify? Might as well have included the RS freshmen in that case.

Wow, tough decision. Marshall is the best player on her team. Same might be said for Alhassan as well. Frantti and Washington have been so important to Penn State's season.

Why did you bother to include Washington when it is clear she won't have enough sets to qualify? Might as well have included the RS freshmen in that case. I realize she missed the first half the season but I figured she was the second best option from the B1G and she is now an important part of a top 5 team. I know she will not win the actual award, but this is a vote for who the individual fan thinks is the top freshman.
If you think I left out an obvious choice let me know and I will add it.

I acknowledge my limited knowledge is Big Ten.
But, nevertheless, I am disappointed that no defensive folks are on the list (which isn't a surprise), so I will nominate Brandi Donnelly from Illinois.

If you had a vote for National Freshman of the year is that who you would vote for? Or would you just like to see some "love" for the L/DS position?
I just have not seen a L/DS ever win a conference player of the week award or looking back the last 10 years a NFOY award.

Not that a setter would likely win the award in any way but who are your top setters and liberos? I was almost about to add the Kansas setter but did not, The TAMU setter is very good, but she will miss a match or set every now and then due to injury. |

She has played in plenty of matches to have a legitimate body of work. She is really hurt by the fact that her team won as many matches 3-0 as they did. In the I believe 17 matches she played in, 15 went 3 sets. Again, just my opinion. |

Tashima at NU would be my pick if I had to have a freshman setter. Aiple, Havili from KU, Scott from Oregon, Mead from Santa Clara and Templeton from Miami are all good setters, but none of them stand out as much as in the typical year.

This list is a mess but in any case in my honest opinion it should go to Frantti, with Ahassan a close second, she is a starting OH on a very good squad. I love Cat McCoy for Texas she is fantastic and should be a candidate but when has a libero every won the award.

If you made a list of the 4 or 5 top players in the country would it not include the players mentioned? Is there some player other than the listed ones that has a legitimate shot at NFOY? |
