Not being there, I didn't know the whole story. Wasn't aware that injured setter was more able earlier. It is a sad story when one person gets slighted over another. I think the problem isn't in not having enough setting, but rather in needing better passers/ball controllers who hit. They don't need depth at setter as much as they need depth at those skills, but instead it seems that's what they have more depth at setting than passing/ball control.

I thought Moenoa was setting better, but I think he yanked her because she wasn't riding Lowe enough. It was clearly the game plan for Consani to feed her ad nauseam, and I guess he would sacrifice the good connection with Felix to get her going. It's strange because he's a former setter, but I get the feeling Sealy isn't all that interested in setting a creative, diverse offense. From how he's used Lowe (and what he did with Kidder and Love before her), it's pretty clear what he wants out of the position is a ball machine that launches every ball to his team's big gun. Also some big props to Shebby, just realized she hit over .300 last night. That's gotta feel good Shebby has been playing so much better the past few matches, the swings looked great. Can she keep it up?

I don't understand the setting. Few years back with Van Orden they were all about spreading the offense. Seems like now every ball goes to the right side. The middles now are way better then when Van Orden was there but it seems like they use them less. I don't get it...

I don't get why UCLA threads attract the most random newbie posters without knowledge of even this season's play.

Anybody know why Consani left Fullerton? She was their primary setter, I never heard anything about her being unhappy and there wasn't an issue of playing time, wondering what made her ditch her school/team for her senior season.

I know that she wanted to play sand. That was her primary reason for joining UCLA. Once all of the other setters were injured, she ended up filling in that role nicely to start the season.

I heard that too but leaving before your senior year for a sand team that isn't highly ranked? Don't remember her being a big beach player pre college and there are better beach programs to play for in the immediate vicinity.

Biggest thing for Oregon that I'm seeing is how they are just nutting it up and not folding under pressure. In a lot of matches they've lost, they've been ahead or tied at 20's or right around there. I like the grit and the passion I've seen over the last couple of matches.

Been fun watching all the PAC 12 matches this year. So much television coverage. Was quite enjoyable watching UCLA step up and improve so much more from last year's performance (oh my, that wasn't fun to watch at all). Miss out on watching them play like I did when I lived in SoCal. Oregon's defense is quite stuck in and impressive. Last match I saw, about Oregon the announcers kept on talking about Liz Brenner and how she can't quite hit over the blocks anymore ("doesn't have the lift"), so instead she works on hitting around the block and tooling. What happened? Is Brenner fighting some injuries?

What happened? Is Brenner fighting some injuries? If there is an injury, no one is saying anything. Granted, Brenner was never a big over the block hitter though. She was always about power and hitting around it. The other thing I'm curious about though, and also impressed is the way Taylor Agost stepped in this weekend and came up big. She doesn't seem to have the arm that Naya Crittendon does but she definitely can jump and is a good blocker. But they had a few shots of Crittendon on the sidelines during the UCLA and USC matches and she was in warm-ups and didn't look happy.

Agost's action this weekend will be interesting if it opens up a playing time battle. It's possible they move one or the other elsewhere. Crittendon has a lot of potential though, she should follow the Karsta Lowe path and strategy and just pound the ball straight down all the time.
