Looks like Scott Wong has been biting his tongue on the sidelines. Maybe its about time the baton is passed.... Ah-Mow-Santos and he would make a good pair. Be careful what you wish for....

I suspect that a lot of coaches retire or leave a team under less-than-positive circumstances. Obviously, I don't have the numbers to support my suspicions. Just a general feeling from 30+ years as a spectator and sports article reader. You know, osmosis of random bits of info here and there.

I remember reading something about Dave promising one of his recruits that if she came to UH he would stay and coach her until she graduates. Don't remember which player it was but I think he's going to be around for another few years at least....

Actually I think it was Croson. Taylor knew coming in and was quoted in papers (I'm pretty sure), that she came to UH knowing Shoji may retire during her career.

So if he keeps his word to Nikki then Dave will be here for another two years at lease then....

If she stayed things would have been very different this year (and last) for sure. If you go back a few years we always had one stud OH like Jamie Houston, then Kanani, then Hartong. Croson would have been this years Hartong....

Croson was a threat out of the backrow. And as for much as she had errors, she showed up in the big games and her passing/defense is head and shoulders better than Olevau's.

Answer to the original question: Who knows? Our thoughts, opinions and guesses won't have any effect on Dave Shoji's tenure.
