Is it possible Granato will beat out Olevao? was very impressed by her in club this past summer. Olevau despite her experience hasn't impressed me this year, nor last year. I'm just annoyed Shoji doesn't experiment with the line-up and put Huff or Maglio at OPP. Amber Kaufman played right in 2006 before being converted to MB finally.

Taylor with a triple double (10k, 10d, 10b) Just saw that in the stats pretty impressive...not that impressive kill efficiency wise, but defensively very impressive!

After a real subpar blocking last night...Kalei Adolpho and the Wahine blocked Poly off the court in sets 3 and 4. Kalei finishing with a double double and Taylor finishing with a triple double.
Granato or someone else can easily beat out Manu-Olevao next season unless Manu-Olevao takes the time to work on her game during the off-season...I honestly was not too high on Manu-Olevao coming in as a Wahine...Granato looks to be much better and has a lot more control than Manu-Olevao did when Olevao was a senior...we just have to see how Granato transitions to the college game
Overall looking at the stats the Wahine defense is what pulled out the victory. It seems that Cal Poly played great defense as the Wahine took a lot of swings which equaled a low hitting percentage.
Just a quick note, I thought Passi wasn't making the trip, according to the stats she played and recorded an assist, was that an error?

Do not see Olevau starting next year, even if she is a Senior. Kalei Greeley and Nikki Taylor are guaranteed starting spots. The other starting outside position should go to Annie Mitchem. The starting Middles will be Maglio and Magill. The only question is, who will do the setting next year.

Watching from the end line view, Hawaii's pin hitters have to attack a lot of inside sets ...especially to Taylor on the right. When watching from the sideline view, the sets to the pins seem too tight.
Higgins needs a lot of improvement over the off-season if Hawaii is going to be a good team the next two years. This, to me, has been the weakest position on the court all season long.
Hawaii's block has bailed them out of a lot of games this year. Who would've thunk Hawaii's best skill would be blocking?

Olevau will be in a battle for the 4th outside hitting position with Megan Huff and Granato.

For any interested Wahine fans...recent Wahine commit Norene Iosia and her Redondo Union team is playing on Fox Sports Prime Ticket against Mater Dei right now.

Norene Iosia is a stud setter. UH got a very good setter/player.

This season is what it is. Don't expect the Wahine to get much better over the next three games. Hawaii's middles are stellar on offense and defense tho. Adolpho overcame a pretty bad start, but is playing lights out right now. Hawaii's serve, block and defense is what keeps them in games.
Who was the last Wahine with a triple double? Maja Gustin or Kim Willoughby perhaps? Nice stuff by Taylor. Her and Adolpho were crazy on the block.
----
As for Iosia, she'll have to adjust to jump setting and playing more conservative, but I agree, she's a stud all-around. Best setter to come to Hawaii out of high school since Kamanao. And she can do it all.

I could've attended this match this evening because I'm in the area this weekend. But I took a short nap around 4:00 and woke up at 5:30. I took the dog for a walk and by the time we got back, it was 6:30. I could've rushed down to Cal Poly in less than 20 minutes but I was hungry and I said, "Ahh, f**k it!"

I think, and I'm just suspecting, that due to the injury to Taylor, Olevau became the "Kill leader" at the start, and to remove your "#1 attacker" out of the line-up completely would appear insane, but as many have stated, Olevau is just not consistently good. I think she has improved a lot, but a lot from hitting under .200 isn't saying much. I would also love to see Maglio at OPP, especially with Magill in the front because Magill does not run anything behind the setter, whereas Maglio can.

Is it possible Granato will beat out Olevao? was very impressed by her in club this past summer. Don't forget to add Casey Castillo (6'3") OH in to the mix. She led her club team to a second place finish in the Open Division of JO's this summer...
